The Singularity

The Singularity is a main storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command with the story line “boldly go where no one has gone before” as its setup. Almost everything happens in Mina, where you scan Laok, try to break away from a conflict, and end up fighting the USS Newton at roughly 1.97 million strength. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but the mission needs warp 56 to finish. The reward is 4,275,000 Tritanium and 1,149,000 Dilithium.

The Singularity objectives

There are five objectives and no choice split:

  • Enter the Mina system. Location: Mina.
  • Scan the surface of Laok. Location: Mina.
  • Attempt to break away from the conflict. Location: Mina.
  • Defeat the USS Newton. Location: Mina. Enemy strength is roughly 1,969,977.
  • Scan for tachyon emissions at the Station.

The first four steps are all in Mina. You arrive, scan Laok, and then try to leave the fighting behind. That attempt fails, and the USS Newton is the fight that follows. The last step brings you home to scan for tachyon emissions at your station.

Where and what warp

There is no pickup system, and the mission becomes available at warp 1. Completing it needs warp 56, the range for Mina. With every away step in one system, this is a single trip out and a single trip home.

The recommended level shows as 1. The USS Newton at almost 1.97 million strength, together with the warp 56 range, is the real requirement.

The Singularity rewards

Reward Amount
Tritanium 4,275,000
Dilithium 1,149,000

Completing the mission also unlocks the next mission in the chain.

The Singularity in the chain

The Singularity follows Dark Space and leads into Loop. Loop is the next part of the same story, so it makes sense to run the two back to back.

The USS Newton shares its listed strength of 1,969,977 with named enemies in several other missions in this warp range. If your ship has beaten any of them, it is ready for this fight:

Mission Enemy at about 1.97 million Warp to complete
The Singularity USS Newton 56
Retaliation Gladius 64
End of the Beginning Augur and Gladius 65
Stolen to Order Mercenary Leader 70

The Singularity has the shortest warp of the group, so for many players it is the first of these fights they meet.

Tips

Bring your main combat ship. The first three steps are travel and scanning, so it is tempting to send whatever is free, but the USS Newton fight comes straight after them in the same system. A survey hull will not survive it.

Go in repaired. There is no weaker target earlier in the mission to warm up on, and at about 1.97 million the Newton is a real test for a ship around warp 56.

Split the rewards sensibly. The Tritanium goes into ship and building upgrades, while 1.149 million Dilithium is a good boost for research.

Every mission by level is on the mission guide.
