Away Teams research is the officer and away-team branch, unlocked from early Shuttle Bay and Operations levels and running into the low 40s. It improves the crews you send on away-team assignments and the officers you level, plus a set of ship-advantage lines. This page lists every away-teams research with what it does, the Operations level it unlocks at, the number of levels, the cost to max, the research time, and prerequisites.
What Away Teams research does
The core of the tree is away-team performance: the health, attack, and defense of the teams you send out, plus research that unlocks better assignment tiers and improves assignment rewards. Because away teams generate officer shards, XP, and resources on a timer, upgrading their stats and unlocking higher assignment tiers pays back steadily, so treat those as the priority. Officer XP and shard-cost lines speed up how fast you rank officers. The tree also carries the rock-paper-scissors ship advantage lines (battleships beat explorers, explorers beat interceptors, interceptors beat battleships) plus some warp and piercing research, which are useful but secondary to the away-team economy. Push away-team stats and assignment unlocks first.
Every Away Teams research
All 111 research projects, sorted by unlock level (most projects gate on your R&D Department; some use Operations or another building). Cost to max is the full resource total across every level. Research time is the base time before your research-speed bonuses, which cut it heavily in play, so treat it as a relative gauge between projects rather than a real-world clock.
