The Sincerest Form of Flattery is a level 62 Federation mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. You pick it up in New Bombay and need warp 1,000 both to start and to finish. Commander Threv asks for help studying a pre-warp species that can copy other life forms, and the mission ends with a fight against Threv himself in Steria. The reward is 58,000 6★ Raw Crystal, 139,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel and 3,600 Federation Credits, plus a large Federation Points gain. There is one fight, and the payout is fair for a level 62 ship.
The Sincerest Form of Flattery objectives
There are five objectives across three systems, with no choice split:
- Meet with Commander Threv. Location: Sigrun.
- Investigate the Mimics. Location: Steria.
- Help Threv run his tests. Location: Xor’Na’Tin.
- Return to the Mimics. Location: Steria.
- Defeat Threv. Location: Steria (enemy strength ~3,391,917,710).
Threv says he was sent to survey a newly found world and discovered a society that has not reached warp yet. He cannot make first contact without breaking the Prime Directive, so he wants you to watch the species he calls the Mimics. In Steria you see one of them take on the exact form of another creature, down to the molecular level.
He then sends you to Xor’Na’Tin for his lab equipment. The parts turn out to be the remains of a transwarp beaming beacon, and when you return to Steria he admits his ship crashed there weeks ago. He believes the Mimics are a threat the Federation’s enemies could turn into a weapon, and he attacks you. After the fight your crew wonders whether Section 31 was behind him.
Where and what warp
The pickup is New Bombay. Warp 1,000 covers the start and the finish, so a ship that can reach New Bombay can clear every step. The route runs Sigrun, then Steria, out to Xor’Na’Tin and back to Steria for the last two objectives. The recommended level is 62.

Tips
Bring a combat ship. Four of the five objectives are travel or story steps, but Defeat Threv is a real fight at about 3.39 billion strength, and it only comes after the round trip to Xor’Na’Tin. There is no donation and no hostile grind, so the fight is the only thing that can hold you up.
Watch your reputation before you run a long string of these. The mission adds 114,000,000 Federation Points and removes 254,448,000 Klingon Points and 56,544,000 Romulan Points, so it pushes you toward the Federation and away from both rivals.
