The Brood is a level 62 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you follow the Actian Brood’s trail of destruction with Maia and the Starfleet officer Howards. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 900 to complete, with stops in Euryodite-731 and Lorraine before you head home. There is no fight. The reward is 300 Σ-Dilithium and 78,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, and finishing it unlocks The Recesses of the Mind. It is a short investigation step, and warp range is the only real hurdle.
The Brood objectives
There are three objectives in a fixed order and no choice split:
- Examine the aftermath of the Actian swarm. Location: Euryodite-731.
- Follow the trail of destruction. Location: Lorraine.
- Return to your Station.
Maia opens by asking what could have brought the Actian Brood back, centuries after Captain Pike and the Enterprise fought them. She suspects a link to the bouts of hysteria you have been investigating and wants to inspect the site of the Brood’s arrival again. Howards, who studied xeno-anthropology at the Academy, nervously volunteers to come along.
In Lorraine the wreckage looks eaten, and Maia confirms it: the Brood can feed on almost anything, Tritanium, Dilithium or flesh. On the way home Howards notices a pattern in their movement. He extrapolates the path from the origin point and the stops along it, and the mission ends with his discovery that the swarm is heading straight for Earth.
Where and what warp
No pickup system is listed, so the mission starts from warp 1. Completing it needs warp 900, because Euryodite-731 and Lorraine are out at that range. The recommended level is 62.
Both stops are travel objectives, and the third sends you back to your station, so the ship you send only needs the range. A survey or mining hull with warp 900 is enough.

The Brood sits in the level 62 stretch of the Frontier storyline, which starts with The Frontier at level 61. The missions on either side of it look like this:

Standoff and The Brood share the same warp 900 bar, so a ship that finished one can finish the other. The Recesses of the Mind is a warp 1 step, and it leads on to Hidden Gems, where Howards starts looking for a way to counter the Brood.
Tips
Send whatever ship has the range. With no hostile to beat and nothing to donate, a combat ship gains nothing here, and a miner can keep working between the two stops.
