The Frontier is a level 61 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you follow a strange signal into a new region of space. It starts at warp 1 but needs warp 700 to complete, taking you to Xenris in the Mortican Frontier and then to Omega Rura to look at a group of ancient ships. There is no combat. The reward is a 10 Day Speed Up and 44,105,600 Parsteel, and finishing it unlocks Something of an Expert. The warp requirement is the only real hurdle.

The Frontier objectives

There are four objectives in a fixed order, with no choice split:

  • Explore the Mortican Frontier. Location: Xenris.
  • Investigate the odd signal. Location: Omega Rura.
  • Examine the ancient ships. Location: Omega Rura.
  • Return to your Station.

The first step puts you in Xenris, where the exploration of the Mortican Frontier begins. The next two both happen in Omega Rura: you track down the signal and then examine the ancient ships it leads to. The mission then sends you home, so it closes at your Station rather than out in the Frontier.

Where and what warp

You can pick the mission up at warp 1, but completing it needs warp 700, because that is the range Xenris and Omega Rura call for. The recommended level is 61. With no enemies listed, the ship you send only needs the range for those two systems.

This is a big step up from the mission before it. Journey into Unknown, where you try to persuade Starfleet to abandon a manned mission into the Void, needs warp 205 to complete. The Frontier more than triples that, and the mission after it keeps the same range.

Order Mission Recommended level Warp to complete Story prompt
Before Journey into Unknown 61 205 Persuade Starfleet to abandon a manned mission into the Void
This mission The Frontier 61 700 Follow a strange signal to a new region of space
After Something of an Expert 61 700 Meet with an expert on the Progenitors

The Frontier rewards

Reward Amount
10 Day Speed Up 1
Parsteel 44,105,600

Completing the mission also unlocks Something of an Expert.

Tips

Check your warp range before accepting. Every objective here is travel or investigation, so the mission cannot fail on strength, but a ship that tops out below warp 700 cannot reach Xenris or Omega Rura at all. If Journey into Unknown was the longest trip you had made so far, this is where you need a ship with more range.

Since Something of an Expert also needs warp 700, the same ship can carry you straight into the next mission once you are back at your Station.

The 10 Day Speed Up is worth saving for a long building or research timer rather than spending on something short. The Parsteel is a large lump sum that goes straight toward upgrades at this level.
