A Hornet’s Nest is an early Star Trek Fleet Command mission set around Risa. The Risa system has become an easy target for hostiles, and the locals are looking for a new protector. It is picked up in Risa, recommended for level 8, and needs warp 5 to start and complete. You eliminate five hostiles in the Risa system and return to your station. The reward is 370 Tritanium and one Encryption Key, so it is a quick job for a new player’s first combat ship.
A Hornet’s Nest objectives
There are two objectives and no choice split:
- Eliminate 5 Hostiles in the Risa system. Location: Risa.
- Return to the Station.
The kills have to happen inside the Risa system, where you picked the mission up. No enemy strength is listed and no specific hostile type is named, so any five hostiles in Risa count. Once the fifth is down, you fly home to finish.
Where and what warp
A Hornet’s Nest is picked up in Risa, and both the start and the finish need warp 5. Everything except the final return happens in the same system.
The recommended level is 8. The only real requirement is a ship that can win five fights against the hostiles that spawn in Risa.
A Hornet’s Nest rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tritanium | 370 |
| Encryption Key | 1 |
A Hornet’s Nest is a standalone mission and does not unlock a follow-up.
Other Risa missions
Several early missions are picked up in Risa at the same warp 5. Current game data:
| Mission | Recommended level | What you do | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Tritanium Mine | 7 | Mine 100 Tritanium | 2,500 Parsteel, 1 Encryption Key |
| Smash the Smasher | 7 | Donate 600 Parsteel, defeat 7 hostiles of level 6 or higher and Kraag the Smasher, then escort evacuees to Boru | 6,000 Parsteel, 1 Encryption Key, 340 Officer XP |
| A Hornet’s Nest | 8 | Eliminate 5 hostiles in Risa | 370 Tritanium, 1 Encryption Key |
| Nothing Personal | 8 | Investigate the attack on Risa through Boru and Minnea, then make a choice | Depends on your choice |
Three of these four pay an Encryption Key. A Hornet’s Nest is the only one of the three that is purely a kill count, with no donation, escort or mining.
About the Encryption Key
Encryption Keys show up as rewards across many missions. Rosetta Stone, another mission, asks for 3 Encryption Keys and names missions in P’Jem, Rator and Morska as where they should come from.
Tips
Stay in Risa until the count is done. The objective only counts kills inside the Risa system, so there is no reason to leave it until you have five.
Look at the other Risa missions while you are there. They share the pickup system and warp, and The Tritanium Mine suits a mining ship rather than a combat ship. More missions by level are on the mission guide.
