A Fool’s Hope

A Fool’s Hope is a level 62 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you try to talk the Federation, the Klingons and the Romulans out of a war. It needs warp 1 to start but warp 900 to complete, with stops in Solas Astra, Tel’Droht and Gratia-3. There is no combat. The reward is 270,000,000 Dilithium and 8,175,000,000 Parsteel, and finishing it unlocks Who Wants to Begin? It is three conversations for a large pile of base resources.

A Fool’s Hope objectives

There are three objectives, one per faction leader, and no choice split:

  • Meet with Admiral Johnson. Location: Solas Astra.
  • Meet with General Martok. Location: Tel’Droht.
  • Meet with Tomalak. Location: Gratia-3.

Violence between the three major factions keeps growing, and your crew suspects people in this sector are acting strangely because of some outside force. The plan is to reach each faction through a contact who has been reasonable in the past.

Admiral Johnson is first. A skirmish in Stellastica nearly started a war with the Klingons, and the Admiral, stretched thin on several fronts, has no patience for the meeting. Your crew wonders whether he is showing the same symptoms seen elsewhere in the sector.

Martok is next, since the Chancellor is unlikely to listen. Martok is already preparing for war and tells you the time for peaceful talks has passed.

The last hope is Tomalak. He denies any knowledge of the Stellastica skirmish, then talks, hypothetically, about how a Romulan counterattack might open the way to Romulan dominance of the Alpha Quadrant.

Where and what warp

No pickup system is listed, and warp 1 is enough to accept the mission. Completing it needs warp 900, because the three meetings are spread across Solas Astra, Tel’Droht and Gratia-3. The recommended level is 62, but with no fights the warp range is what decides whether you can finish.

A Fool’s Hope rewards

Reward Amount
Dilithium 270,000,000
Parsteel 8,175,000,000

Completing the mission also unlocks the next one in the storyline, Who Wants to Begin?

A Fool’s Hope and its neighbours

The Frontier missions carry the main storyline on past level 60. A Fool’s Hope sits in a level 62 stretch of it:

Mission Warp to start / complete Rewards
Why Can’t We Be Friends? (previous) 1 / 900 Depends on the choice; each path pays 483,000 of a Raw Σ resource plus 700 6★ Common Refined Ore, 100,000,000 Parsteel or 1 U.S.S. Discovery Scale Replica
A Fool’s Hope 1 / 900 270,000,000 Dilithium, 8,175,000,000 Parsteel
Who Wants to Begin? (next) 1 / 1 5,170,000,000 Tritanium, 324,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel

A Fool’s Hope pays no Raw Σ resources, unlike the missions on either side of it. Its 8.175 billion Parsteel is the largest single base resource payout in this stretch.

Tips

Any ship with warp 900 can clear this. All three objectives are meetings, so there is nothing to fight and nothing to donate, and you can send whichever ship has the range.

The rewards are plain Parsteel and Dilithium, which go straight into station upgrades. If you are short on Raw Σ materials, the next mission, Who Wants to Begin?, adds 324,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel on top of its Tritanium.

The Frontier story that leads here began with The Frontier, and the mission guide lists every other mission by level.
