The Ends Justify the Means

The Ends Justify the Means is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission in which you meet a Romulan Centurion in V’varia and decide what to do with the Romulan offer. It is listed at recommended level 1, starts at warp 1 and needs warp 13 to complete. Working with the Romulans means attacking Starfleet and Klingon forces and gains Romulan standing; turning on them means fighting the Centurion and an Augur and gains Federation and Klingon standing. Both paths involve two fights of roughly 16,000 to 18,500 strength.

The Ends Justify the Means objectives

The mission opens with two shared steps:

  • Meet with the Romulans in V’varia. Location: V’varia.
  • Make a decision on the Romulan offer.

The decision is a choice split with its own objectives and rewards on each side.

Path 1: work with the Romulans

  • Destroy the Starfleet force in Lorillia. Location: Lorillia. Enemy strength is roughly 17,801.
  • Destroy the Klingon force in Krah’Hor. Location: Krah’Hor. Enemy strength is roughly 18,405.
  • Return to the Romulans. Location: V’varia.

Path 2: turn on the Romulans

  • Defeat the Romulan Centurion. Location: V’varia. Enemy strength is roughly 16,382.
  • Chase and destroy the Augur. Location: Huebr. Enemy strength is roughly 17,801.
  • Return to your Station.

Path 1 sends you on a two-system strike for the Romulans and ends back in V’varia. Path 2 starts with a fight right where you met the Centurion, chases the Augur to Huebr, and ends at your station.

Where and what warp

The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 13 to complete. V’varia is the meeting point on both paths. Path 1 adds Lorillia and Krah’Hor; Path 2 adds Huebr. The recommended level is listed as 1, though both paths ask you to win two fights near 17,000 to 18,000 strength.

The Ends Justify the Means rewards

Reward Path 1: work with the Romulans Path 2: turn on the Romulans
Romulan Points +240 -240
Federation Points -104 +104
Klingon Points -69 +69
Romulan Credits 15 none
2★ Uncommon Refined Ore 10 none
2★ Battleship Parts none 150
Dilithium none 1,200

Either path unlocks the next mission in the storyline.

Which path to pick

The faction changes mirror each other exactly. Path 1 gives the Romulans 240 points and takes 104 from the Federation and 69 from the Klingons. Path 2 flips every one of those numbers.

Pick based on the faction you are building toward. If you want Romulan standing, Path 1 is the only way to gain it here, and it adds Romulan Credits and a little refined ore. If you are leaning Federation or Klingon, Path 2 pays more in material terms, with 150 2★ Battleship Parts and 1,200 Dilithium. The faction reputation page explains how standing builds up.

Tips

Bring a combat ship either way. Each path has two fights, and the hardest on each side is around 17,800 to 18,400 strength.

On Path 1, the Klingon force in Krah’Hor is the tougher of the two fights at about 18,405, so repair after Lorillia if your hull took a beating.

On Path 2, the Augur is fought in Huebr rather than V’varia, so check that your ship can make the jump before you engage the Centurion.
