The Romulan Scout is a Romulan Interceptor-class hostile you can hunt across Romulan space in Star Trek Fleet Command. It shows up in two level bands, roughly 32 to 50 in the mid-game systems and again at 61 to 70 out in deep space. Every version is an Interceptor, so the short answer is to bring an Explorer. Each kill builds Federation and Klingon reputation while costing you Romulan reputation.

How to beat the Romulan Scout

The Romulan Scout only appears as an Interceptor, so you never have to guess which hull to bring. An Explorer counters it at every level, and there is nothing to swap between the low and high bands. Interceptors give up ground to Explorers in ship-versus-ship combat, so an Explorer of the right tier will trade well and take the kill.

For crew, lead with a captain that raises weapon damage against hostiles and fill the other seats with officers that add damage or mitigation. If you are still early and fighting the level 32 to 40 versions, the cadet crew of Cadet Kirk as captain with Cadet Spock and Cadet Uhura is a cheap, dependable start. Crews shift with the meta, so check the current officer tier list for up-to-date picks.

From level 61 up, the Romulan Scout carries a ship ability called Revolutionary Spirit, which raises its critical hit damage by 30% at level 61 and scales to 100% by the top levels, for the first five rounds of combat. Those opening rounds are when its crits land hardest, so aim for a fast kill or bring enough hull and mitigation to ride out the early burst. The lower-band Scouts, level 50 and under, do not have this ability.

Where to find the Romulan Scout

The Romulan Scout clusters in Romulan and border systems. The low band, level 32 to 50, sits in warp 26 to 185 space, while the high band, level 61 to 70, is out in deep space from warp 900 to 1700. There is no Romulan Scout between level 50 and 61, so if you are in the mid-50s you will not find one until you reach the deep-space band. Match your warp range to the level you want and pick the closest system below.

Rewards and what it drops

The Romulan Scout is a faction-reputation target first. Every kill pays out Federation and Klingon reputation and subtracts Romulan reputation, so it fits a Federation or Klingon reputation grind but works against your Romulan standing. Ship XP climbs sharply with level, from a few hundred at the low band to tens of thousands up top.

Drop What it is
Federation Points Federation reputation, raised on every kill
Klingon Points Klingon reputation, raised on every kill
Romulan Points Romulan reputation, which drops when you attack this ship

At some levels you also pick up ship materials on top of the reputation: Broken Interceptor Parts around the mid and high bands, and a little raw Parsteel or Tritanium at the lowest levels. Treat those as a bonus rather than the reason to grind.

Romulan Scout stats

Stats vary little by hull here (it is always an Interceptor) but climb steeply with level, so these three anchor rows show the low, mid, and high end rather than every step.

Romulan Scout firing pattern

At the low end, the Romulan Scout fires a single Energy shot every round and a pair of Kinetic shots every other round. The Kinetic pair is the bigger hit, so time your repairs and mitigation for the rounds it lands.

Weapon type Count Damage per shot Fires Crit
Energy 1 13,200–16,133 Every round 10% (1.5x)
Kinetic 2 31,680–38,720 Every other round 10% (1.5x)

The Romulans in Star Trek

The Romulans are a secretive, militarized offshoot of Vulcans who left Vulcan before it embraced logic and settled the twin worlds of Romulus and Remus. They built the Romulan Star Empire, ruled through the Senate and enforced by the Tal Shiar intelligence service. Romulan strategy leans on stealth: their warbirds pioneered the cloaking device, and Romulan commanders favor patience and misdirection over open confrontation. Scout ships fit that doctrine, slipping through contested space to watch rivals before the Empire commits its heavier D’deridex warbirds. In Star Trek Fleet Command they are one of the three original factions you can befriend or fight.

Is the Romulan Scout worth grinding?

It earns its place if you are pushing Federation or Klingon reputation, since every kill feeds both while it stays an Interceptor you can counter. It also hands out steady ship XP, which helps level a new hull. Skip it if you are protecting your Romulan standing, because the reputation loss adds up fast. When you do run it, match your warp to the level band and bring an Explorer so the hull counter does the heavy lifting.
