Quicksand is a mission in Star Trek Fleet Command’s Discovery storyline. Your task is to bring Burnham into Tilly’s system, Netron Alpha, after surveying it and defeating a security ship of about 133,020 strength. The game lists a recommended level of 25, and the mission can be accepted at warp 1 but needs warp 20 to complete. The reward is 9,000 Dilithium, sixteen 1 Hour Speed Ups and a 1 Day Speed Up, and finishing it unlocks Turning Tides.

Quicksand objectives

The story line asks you to bring Burnham to Tilly’s system. There are four objectives in a fixed order and no choice split:

  • Survey Tilly’s system. Location: Netron Alpha.
  • Defeat the security ship. Location: Netron Alpha. Enemy strength is roughly 133,020.
  • Bring Burnham into Tilly’s system. Location: Netron Alpha.
  • Return to your Station.

The first three steps all happen in Netron Alpha. The security ship is the one fight, and it stands between the survey and bringing Burnham in.

Where and what warp

Quicksand can be accepted at warp 1, but Netron Alpha needs warp 20 to finish it. The recommended level is 25, the same as the two missions before it, and the security ship’s strength of about 133,020 is the real check on your ship.

Quicksand rewards

Reward Amount
Dilithium 9,000
1 Hour Speed Up 16
1 Day Speed Up 1

Completing Quicksand also unlocks the next mission, Turning Tides. Between the sixteen 1 Hour Speed Ups and the 1 Day Speed Up, the mission hands out 40 hours of speed ups in total.

Quicksand in the Discovery storyline

The missions around Quicksand all carry a recommended level of 25 and involve one fight each:

Mission Warp to complete Fight Rewards
Close to Home 1 A spy (about 129,975) 13 × 15 Minute Repair Speed Up, 20 × 1 Hour Speed Up
A Rose by Any Other Name 19 Disable a Starfleet ship in Metea (about 131,625) 42,000 Tritanium, 6 × 3 Hour Speed Up, 4 3★ Uncommon Refined Gas
Quicksand 20 Security ship in Netron Alpha (about 133,020) 9,000 Dilithium, 16 × 1 Hour Speed Up, 1 × 1 Day Speed Up

The enemies climb slowly across the three, from about 129,975 to 133,020, so a ship that handled Close to Home is ready for Quicksand. Each one pays a large stack of speed ups, which makes this run of missions a good source of build time. A Rose by Any Other Name prepares Burnham for going undercover, and Quicksand is where that plan moves into Tilly’s system.

Hostiles in Netron Alpha

Current hostile data lists an Unknown Alien hostile in Netron Alpha at levels 21 to 25. It is not part of the mission, but it is there if you want extra fights while you are in the system.

Tips

Bring a combat ship with some margin over 133,020 strength. The security ship is the only obstacle.

Save the 1 Day Speed Up for a long building upgrade, where a full day of time does the most good.

Michael Burnham and Tilly are both officers in the game. The full storyline is covered on the Discovery arc page, and other missions are on the mission guide.
