The Gorn Hunter is a Neutral Battleship hostile that patrols the level 60 to 71 range in deep space. It appears both as the regular Gorn Hunter and as a hazard-zone version the game tags Gorn Hunter HAZ, and this guide covers both. It drops 6-star Broken Battleship Parts and 6-star Broken Survey Parts. Because it only flies as a Battleship, bring an Interceptor to beat it.

How to beat the Gorn Hunter

The Gorn Hunter only appears as a Battleship, so the counter is simple: bring an Interceptor. Interceptors take reduced damage from Battleships and deal extra in return, and there is nothing to swap between levels since the hull never changes. Leave your Explorers docked for this one.

That last point matters because of the Gorn Hunter’s ship ability, Explorer Exploitation. It increases the hostile’s damage against Explorers by 50% to 100% for the first five rounds of combat, and the bonus climbs with level, hitting the full 100% from level 66 up. An Explorer would eat that extra damage early in the fight, while an Interceptor sidesteps the bonus and counters the hull at the same time.

For crew, the principle holds across the meta: a captain that boosts weapon damage against hostiles, paired with officers that add damage or mitigation. At levels 60 to 71 you are well past cadet crews, so lean on your current roster. Check the Officer Tier List for the picks that fit right now. Crews shift as new officers arrive, so treat any named lineup as a snapshot rather than a permanent answer.

Where to find the Gorn Hunter

The Gorn Hunter clusters in the lower levels around warp 700, where it spawns across the widest spread of systems. As the levels climb the required warp rises to 1500 and the system list narrows, with the deepest, highest-warp systems holding the hazard-zone spawns. Match your warp range to the level you want before you head out.

Rewards and what it drops

The Gorn Hunter pays out in 6-star ship parts, the kind you use to build and upgrade top-tier hulls at this stage of the game. Both drops appear across the full level range, and the amounts climb with the level you fight. Ship XP also scales steeply, from 16,000 at level 60 to 57,000 at level 71, so higher targets reward your ship faster if you can clear them cleanly.

Drop What it is
6-star Broken Battleship Parts High-tier parts used to build and upgrade 6-star Battleships (1,587 to 26,383 per kill).
6-star Broken Survey Parts High-tier parts used to build and upgrade 6-star Survey (mining) ships (794 to 13,192 per kill).

Gorn Hunter firing pattern

The Gorn Hunter fires two weapon groups. Its energy pair hits every round, while its kinetic pair lands roughly twice as hard per shot but only every other round. Time your repairs and mitigation around the kinetic volleys, since those are the ones that spike your damage taken.

Weapon type Count Damage per shot Fires Crit
Energy 2 40,500,000–49,500,000 Every round 10% (1.8x)
Kinetic 2 81,000,000–99,000,000 Every other round 10% (1.8x)

The Gorn in Star Trek

The Gorn are a reptilian species first seen in the original series episode “Arena,” where Kirk is forced into single combat against a Gorn captain on a barren planet after a border clash. Cold-blooded and immensely strong, the Gorn were long portrayed as slow but nearly unstoppable in a straight fight. Later stories, including Strange New Worlds, reworked them as fast pack predators with a brutal reproductive cycle, leaning into the horror side of the species. In the game their hunters carry that predatory reputation into deep-space raids.

Is the Gorn Hunter worth grinding?

Yes, if you are building or upgrading 6-star Battleships or Survey ships, since it is a steady source of both part types plus solid ship XP at the top of its range. It is a single-hull target with a predictable ability, so once you have an Interceptor crewed for it the fights stay routine. Match your warp to the level you want, bring the Interceptor, and keep your Explorers out of the fight.
