Combat Training 2: Rookie is one of the first combat training missions in Star Trek Fleet Command. It asks you to defeat a single hostile of level 2 or higher, needs only warp 1, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. The reward is 2 Dilithium, and finishing it unlocks Combat Training 2: Soldier. The payout is tiny, but the mission takes one fight and keeps the combat training chain moving.

Combat Training 2: Rookie objectives

The story line is shared by every combat training mission: test your skills in battle against escalating difficulties of hostile enemies. There is one objective and no choice split:

  • Besiegen Sie einen Feind der Stufe 2 oder höher.

No system is named. Any hostile of level 2 or above counts, so the first suitable target you beat clears the mission.

Wo und welcher Warp

Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. You can finish it in the systems closest to your station.

The recommended level is listed as 1, and level 2 hostiles are about as weak as enemies get. Your starting ship is enough.

Completing the mission also unlocks Kampftraining 2: Soldat.

How the first combat training missions compare

Each hostile level has its own set of combat training steps, named Rookie, Soldier and Veteran. Rookie steps ask for the fewest kills and pay the least. Current game data for the opening levels:

Mission Objective Belohnungen
Kampftraining 1: Soldat 3 hostiles, level 1+ 3 Dilithium, 50 Officer XP
Kampftraining 1: Veteran Level 1 hostiles 8 Dilithium, 2 1 Minute Speed Ups
Kampftraining 2: Rookie 1 hostile, level 2+ 2 Dilithium
Kampftraining 2: Veteran 5 hostiles, level 2+ 12 Dilithium, 4 1 Minute Speed Ups
Kampftraining 3: Rookie 1 hostile, level 3+ 8 Dilithium, 1 Nächste Generation Troi shard
Kampftraining 3: Soldat 3 hostiles, level 3+ 12 Dilithium, 200 Officer XP, 1 Nächste Generation Troi shard

Combat Training 2: Rookie has the smallest reward in this group, at 2 Dilithium. That is expected for a one-kill step so early in the chain. The value comes later: by level 3 the Rookie step adds an officer shard, and the Veteran step at level 2 already pays speed ups.

Why it is worth doing

The combat training chain unlocks one mission at a time. Skipping this step means the Soldier and Veteran Missionen for level 2, and everything after them, stay locked. Since it takes a single fight against a weak target, clearing it as soon as it appears is the easy choice.

The chain keeps going far beyond these early levels. Later steps pay tens of thousands of Dilithium, large Officer XP rewards and multiple shards of named Offiziere, so moving through the first few quickly gets you to the better rewards sooner.

Tips

Clear it during your first story missions. Any level 2 hostile you meet along the way counts, so there is no need to go looking for one.

Keep going straight into the Soldier step. It is also level 2 and unlocks as soon as this one is done. Previous mission: Combat Training 1: Veteran. Next mission: Combat Training 2: Soldier. Other missions sorted by level are on the Missionsleitfaden.
