Officer Cat Spock

Cat Spock is an Episch Föderation Wissenschaft officer in Star Trek Fleet Command: a le-catya version of Spock, half Vulcan and half cat, built for combat in the Origin Sector. His bridge ability, Tooth and Claw, multiplies your weapons’ base critical damage against Origin Sector [OGN] hostiles and armadas, and his below-decks ability, Mental Agility, adds Apex Barrier against non-armada hostiles. His captain seat does nothing, so he belongs on the bridge or below decks. Two IDIQ story Missionen reward his shards.

Who is Cat Spock?

Cat Spock is a playful twist on a familiar character. In his in-game story he is half cat and half le-catya, a Vulcan species that closely resembles the Earth cat, Felis catus. The logic and philosophy of his Vulcan side are still there, but a cat’s temperament mixed with Vulcan emotion makes self-control a daily fight, and he never completed kolinahr, the Vulcan discipline meant to purge emotion entirely.

He is early in his Starfleet career. He turned down the Vulcan Science Academy and served aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise as a junior science officer under Captain James T. Kirk, working alongside Doctor Leonard McCoy before rising to first officer. He is engaged to T'Pring, and the story jokes that he once lost his brain for a while, as cats do. The cat angle is the joke; the character beats track the Spock players already know.

Cat Spock’s role in STFC

Cat Spock is a combat support officer and a crit-damage specialist for Origin Sector fights. He is not a miner, a station defender or an economy officer. His bridge value is locked to Origin Sector [OGN] hostiles and armadas, so outside that content his main ability sits idle.

His below-decks ability widens that a little. Mental Agility applies against non-armada hostiles in general, which means a below-decks Cat Spock still helps a hostile-grinding ship survive even when the target is not from the Origin Sector. For an endgame roster, the cleanest approach is to keep him earmarked for an OGN combat crew and use his below-decks slot elsewhere when that crew is parked.

Cat Spock’s abilities

Captain maneuver: Chain of Command

Chain of Command has no effect. Equipping Cat Spock as captain gives no benefit, so give the captain’s chair to an officer with a real maneuver and keep him in a bridge seat where his ability fires.

Officer ability: Tooth and Claw

From a bridge seat, Tooth and Claw increases your weapons’ base Critical Damage against Origin Sector [OGN] hostiles and armadas. The bonus is very large and scales hard with promotion: 6,000% at rank 1 and 25,000% at rank 5, as of the current game version. Numbers like that only make sense against Origin Sector targets, which are tuned around huge multipliers.

Critical damage only pays off when crits land, so Tooth and Claw works best on a crew that also raises critical-hit chance or overall damage. The two effects multiply each other, and that combination is where his ceiling lives.

Below-decks ability: Mental Agility

From a below-decks slot, Mental Agility increases Apex Barrier against non-armada hostiles. Apex Barrier soaks incoming damage, so this is a survivability tool. It is a flat value rather than a percentage, and it grows with rank, as of the current game version:

Rang Apex Barrier vs non-armada hostiles
1 1,500
2 3,000
3 5,000
4 7,000
5 10,000

Note the wording: non-armada hostiles. It does not help in armada fights, which is where Tooth and Claw on the bridge takes over.

Where Cat Spock shines

  • Grinding Origin Sector hostiles, where a big crit-damage multiplier shortens fights.
  • Origin Sector armadas, where Tooth and Claw pushes your crit hits much higher against tough targets.
  • Below decks on any hostile-grinding ship, where Mental Agility adds Apex Barrier without using a bridge seat.

Outside those cases he offers little. There is no reason to seat him on the bridge for PvP, mining or non-OGN armadas.

How to get Cat Spock

Cat Spock shards are a mission reward in the IDIQ story chains. Two parts pay 3 Cat Spock shards each:

Mission Recommended level Cat Spock shards
IDIQ 3: Quantum Anomalies 61 3
IDIQ 6: No Plan Survives First Contact 61 3

Both missions are recommended for level 61. IDIQ 3 sends you to find allies against the galactic anomalies, with stops at Kronos, D’Deridex and Nibiq, and needs warp 40 to complete. IDIQ 6 ranges much further and needs warp 320 to finish, with objectives that include defeating level 60+ hostiles in K’Biuk and helping de-assimilate captured Borg drones in Assimilated Wolf. Plan the warp before you start the chain.

Six shards is only a start against the 1,800 he needs to max, so the rest will come from whatever events, store offers and recruit pools carry him at the time. Check the current rotations in your game.

Cat Spock shard cost by rank

Rang Splitter zum Befördern Cumulative total Max level
1 120 120 5
2 120 240 10
3 240 480 15
4 360 840 20
5 960 1,800 30

The jump to rank 5 alone costs 960 shards, more than the first four ranks combined, so most players will run him at rank 3 or 4 for a long time.

Other Spock officers in STFC

If you searched for Spock in STFC, there are several versions, and they do very different jobs:

Offizier Rarität What he or she is for
Spock Seltene Enterprise Crew officer; captain maneuver raises ship Accuracy
TOS Spock Episch TOS Enterprise Crew officer built around shields
SNW Spock Seltene Strange New Worlds officer; lowers hostile critical hit chance
Ausbilder Spock Gemeinsame Common officer whose captain maneuver adds damage
Ambassador Spock Episch Isolytic Defense vs Origin Sector targets; below decks, Apex Barrier vs players on mining and capture nodes
Female Spock Episch IDIC officer for Origin Sector Isogenite and Isolytic damage
Cat Spock Episch IDIC officer for Origin Sector critical damage

Cat Spock and Female Spock share the IDIC group and the same Origin Sector focus, so they often end up on the same shortlist.

Crews and synergy

Build the crew around the Origin Sector fight, not around Cat Spock. Pick a captain whose maneuver helps you win OGN fights, ideally one that raises critical-hit chance or damage, then add Cat Spock as the crit-damage multiplier. Female Spock is a natural partner: her bridge ability adds Isolytic Cascade Damage against the same Origin Sector targets. Crews shift with the meta, so check the Officer Tier List nach aktuellen Empfehlungen.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cat Spock good in STFC?

For Origin Sector combat, yes. Tooth and Claw is a very large crit-damage bonus against OGN hostiles and armadas. Outside the Origin Sector his bridge ability does nothing, though Mental Agility still helps below decks against regular hostiles.

Should I captain Cat Spock?

No. Chain of Command has no effect. Keep him in a bridge seat or below decks.

Where do you get Cat Spock shards?

IDIQ 3: Quantum Anomalies and IDIQ 6: No Plan Survives First Contact each give 3 shards. Beyond that, check current events and store rotations.

How many shards does Cat Spock need?

1,800 in total: 120, 120, 240, 360 and 960 across his five ranks.

Bottom line

Cat Spock is a specialist for one slice of the endgame. Seat him on the bridge for Origin Sector combat, use his below-decks Apex Barrier on hostile grinders the rest of the time, and plan for the steep 960-shard rank 5 before you commit to maxing him.
