Cutting Ties is a short Romulan-aligned story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command about tying up the final loose end: a data forger held in the Romulan Detention Center in Sufiday. You choose whether to kill the forger or help them escape, and the choice changes both the objectives and the rewards. It is available from warp 1 but needs warp 18 to complete, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. Finishing it unlocks Chaos and Consequence.

Cutting Ties objectives

The mission starts the same way for everyone, then splits:

  • Go to the Romulan Detention Center in Sufiday. Location: Sufiday.
  • Kill or try to free the data forger.

If you kill the data forger

  • Return to Draken I. Location: Draken.

If you try to help the data forger escape

  • Destroy the guard ship. Location: Sufiday. Enemy strength is roughly 73,260.
  • Return to Draken I. Location: Draken.

The kill path has no fight at all. The escape path adds one battle against the guard ship before you head back to Draken.

Where and what warp

Cutting Ties can be accepted at warp 1, but Sufiday and Draken need warp 18 to finish the mission. The recommended level is listed as 1. On the escape path, the guard ship at about 73,260 strength is the only real test; the kill path only asks you to travel.

Cutting Ties rewards

Reward Kill the data forger Help the data forger escape
Tritanium 63,000 none
Parsteel 427,000 none
3★ Battleship Parts none 110
3★ Common Refined Ore none 1,200
Romulan Credits 130 130
Romulan Points 2,000 2,000
Federation Points −1,200 −1,200

Either choice unlocks the next mission, Chaos and Consequence.

Which choice to make

The faction rewards are identical, so the decision comes down to what your station needs. The kill path pays raw building resources: 427,000 Parsteel and 63,000 Tritanium, with no fight. The escape path pays 110 3★ Battleship Parts and 1,200 3★ Common Refined Ore for one extra battle.

If you need Parsteel for a building upgrade right now, or your ship is not ready for the guard, the kill path covers that. If refined ore or battleship upgrades are your bottleneck, the escape path is the one that pays them.

Where Cutting Ties sits in the story

Cutting Ties belongs to a Romulan storyline built around a data forger and a figure named Novix. In Repeat Business you bring the data forger to Novix, and the mission before this one is The Death of Innocence. After Cutting Ties, Chaos and Consequence asks you to take Novix down, with another choice split between confronting the Proconsul in Vendus A and hacking the Romulan database on Biruin.

Tips

Decide before you reach Sufiday. The choice comes right after the first objective, and the escape path keeps you in Sufiday for the guard fight.

If you take the escape path, bring a combat ship. The guard is the only enemy in the mission, but a survey ship will struggle with it.

Both paths cost 1,200 Federation reputation, so players building Federation standing lose a little either way. The faction reputation guide covers the standings, and other missions are on the mission guide.
