Chasing Death is a level 70 Klingon mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which a Yridian mythologist named Gailus hires you to find the Barge of the Dead. You pick it up in Kro’vaz, and it needs warp 1,700 to start and to complete. The trail costs you 20B Parsteel for a tip and ends with a Borg Cube instead of a mythical ship. The reward is 1,798,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, a 1 Hour Σ-Repair Speed Up and 3,900 Klingon Credits. There is no choice split.

Chasing Death objectives

Gailus spots the combat scorch marks on your hull, decides you are the Independent he needs and explains the legend: the barge carries the souls of the dishonoured dead to Gre’thor. The objectives, in order:

  • Investigate the first clue in Wigg.
  • Pay 20B Parsteel for a lead on the ship sighting.
  • Investigate the sighting in Caliar.
  • Defeat the Borg Cube in Caliar (enemy strength ~18,215,062,522).
  • Return to your Station.

Gailus’s contact is Eshek, a Klingon at an outpost on Boriala, who mocks the whole idea and then charges for the coordinates of the last sighting anyway. Gailus has nothing like that on him, so the bill falls to you. In Caliar the sensor reading Gailus is so excited about turns out to be a Borg Cube, and the hail he insists on answering is the usual promise of assimilation. After the fight your ship needs repairs, so you head home and Gailus catches a shuttle to Yridia Prime, still convinced the barge is out there.

Where and what warp

Kro’vaz is the pickup system. The route runs to Wigg for the first clue, then Caliar for the sighting and the fight, and finishes back at your station. Warp 1,700 is listed to start and to complete, and the recommended level is 70.

Other Klingon missions around level 70

Chasing Death uses the older Klingon reward pattern of Klingon Credits and points in the hundreds of millions, like the level 68 and 69 missions below. The level 70 House Sov missions pay reputation in the billions plus Gravimetric Data instead:

Imperial Edict 70 Crossroads 1,550 8,000 Σ-Tritanium, 53,000 7★ Broken Interceptor Parts, 3,900 Klingon Credits

Tips

The expensive part is the 20B Parsteel payment to Eshek, so check your stock before you fly to Wigg. The mission pays back in Raw Σ-Parsteel, a different grade from what you spend; Σ resources explains the difference.

The fight itself is light for this level. The Borg Cube in Caliar is listed at about 18.2 billion strength, far below the trillion-scale fights in the Margins missions around level 70. More Borg ships are listed under Borg hostiles.

Warp 1,700 is a step above the 1,550 that most missions around this level ask for, so check your range before you pick it up. Completing it moves your Klingon standing up by 244 million points while costing 546.56 million Romulan and 204.96 million Federation; see faction reputation if that matters for your plans. The mission guide has more missions by level.
