Through the Long-Range Sensors is an early station mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you give Maia’s program a boost by upgrading Operations. The single objective is to build Operations level 8. It needs only warp 1, and the game lists a recommended level of 8. The reward is 9,000 Parsteel and a Relocation Token, and it leads into the Relocation mission. The Parsteel alone more than pays back the upgrade.
Through the Long-Range Sensors objectives
There is one objective and no choice split:
- Build Operations Level 8.
No system, hostile or donation is involved. The mission completes when your Operations building reaches level 8. Maia is the secret station A.I. you meet in the early mission Maia, and the mission title ties this upgrade to her long-range sensors.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. Everything happens on your station.
The recommended level is 8, which matches the Operations level the mission asks for.
Through the Long-Range Sensors rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Parsteel | 9,000 |
| Relocation Token | 1 |
Completing it unlocks Relocation.
What Operations 8 costs
Current building data for Operations around this level, before any cost reductions:
| Level | Cost | Build time | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 2,000 Parsteel, 70 Tritanium | 2h | Shipyard 6, Tritanium Warehouse 3 |
| 8 | 6,000 Parsteel, 100 Tritanium | 6h | Shipyard 7, Drydock B 4, Tritanium Generator B 4 |
| 9 | 10,000 Parsteel, 250 Tritanium | 5h | Shipyard 8, Tritanium Warehouse 8, Parsteel Warehouse 8 |
The mission’s 9,000 Parsteel covers the 6,000 that Operations 8 costs and most of the 10,000 for Operations 9. Level 8 is the one that brings in Drydock B and Tritanium Generator B as requirements, so check both before you plan the build. Operations 8 also has a separate station mission, Upgrade Operations to Level 8, which pays 350 Tritanium and three 1 Minute Repair Speed Ups.
What comes next
Relocation picks up the Relocation Token theme. It sends you to scout two possible new homes for your station, Dignam and Doraboro, then back to your station. Current game data for the two missions:
| Mission | Recommended level | Warp to complete | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through the Long-Range Sensors | 8 | 1 | 9,000 Parsteel, 1 Relocation Token |
| Relocation | 8 | 5 | 4,000 Parsteel, 1 Relocation Token |
Relocation needs a little more range, warp 5 instead of warp 1, and pays less than half the Parsteel. It does add a second Relocation Token, and both Dignam and Doraboro are level 9 neutral systems.
Tips
Hold on to the Relocation Tokens. Between this mission and Relocation you collect two, and they are what you use to move your station to a new system.
Line up Drydock B 4 and Tritanium Generator B 4 early. They are the two requirements that first appear at this level. Other station and story missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
