The Right Tools is an early main storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. The goal is to build the Fortunate, a ship that helps you gather more resources. It is recommended for level 7, runs at warp 1 from start to finish and has one objective. The reward is 4,000 Parsteel. It is a quick station task that adds a Survey ship to your fleet.
The Right Tools objectives
There is one objective and no choice split:
- Build the Fortunate.
The mission clears when the ECS Fortunate is built. It is a Grade 1 Common Survey ship. Nothing needs to be fought or travelled to.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete. The work happens in your shipyard at the Station.
The recommended level is 7.
The Right Tools rewards
The reward is 4,000 Parsteel. Completing the mission unlocks the next one in the story, Space Age Prospector.

Both are station tasks at warp 1. Mass Production adds a second Tritanium Generator, and The Right Tools follows it with a ship built to gather resources in space.
Tips
Build the Fortunate as soon as the mission opens. It is a Survey ship, and the mission’s own story frames it as the ship for acquiring more resources, so it keeps being useful after the 4,000 Parsteel is spent.
A separate mission, The ECS Fortunate, also asks you to build this ship and pays 50 Recruit Tokens.
