The Apex is a short story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command that takes you to the Singularity Apex, a collapsing black hole, to send the USS Newton through it. There are two objectives, both in the same system, and no fights. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but finishing it needs warp 56. The reward is two 1 Day Speed Ups, which is generous for a trip with no combat.
The Apex objectives
Both objectives happen in one system and there is no choice split:
- Find the collapsing black hole. Location: Singularity Apex.
- Send the USS Newton through the Apex. Location: Singularity Apex.
The first step is travel: fly to the Singularity Apex and locate the black hole. The second step completes there too, once the Newton has been sent through. No hostile or donation is listed, so the whole mission is a single trip out.
Where and what warp
The mission can be picked up at warp 1, but completing it needs warp 56. The Singularity Apex, a level 41 neutral system, is the only location named.
The recommended level is listed as 1. Warp 56 is what decides whether you can finish, and it comes from your ship and warp research rather than your account level. If the Singularity Apex is out of range, the mission waits in your log until it is not.
The Apex rewards
The reward is two 1 Day Speed Ups. There are no resources, parts or shards attached.
Completing The Apex unlocks the next mission in the storyline, An Answer.
How it follows Forwards is Backwards
The Apex picks up directly after Forwards is Backwards, where you use the Temporal Resonator to open a path to the Singularity Apex and convince the Newton’s captain to trust you. Current game data for the two:
| Mission | Warp to complete | Systems | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forwards is Backwards, path 1 | 56 | Mina, Sotavi, Nikola | 500 Federation Recruit Token, 87,000 Officer XP |
| Forwards is Backwards, path 2 | 56 | Mina, Sotavi, Nikola | 665,000 Dilithium, 290 4★ Common Interceptor Parts |
| The Apex | 56 | Singularity Apex | 2 × 1 Day Speed Up |
Both missions finish at warp 56, so whatever got you through Forwards is Backwards will get you to the Apex. The earlier mission is where the choice matters; The Apex has one path and one reward.
About the USS Newton
The ship you send through the Apex shares its name with the U.S.S. Newton, a 4★ rare Federation battleship players can build. It needs 350 blueprints and Shipyard 46, and its ship ability, Confiscate Evidence, increases the resources it gains from hostiles.
Tips
Send any ship with the range. With no fight involved, a survey or explorer hull that reaches warp 56 is as good as a battleship here, and it keeps your combat ship free.
Save the speed ups for a long build or research. A full day of speed up is most useful on a timer measured in days, not on something that finishes in an hour.
Plan the two missions as one trip if you can. Forwards is Backwards unlocks The Apex and both need the same warp. Other missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
