Primal is a short Romulan-aligned story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. A resurgent Gorn presence threatens the Suliban in the neutral zone, and you track the attack from Unroth to Rator and stop the Gorn ship before it hits the Suliban helix. It is picked up in Unroth and needs warp 26 to start and complete. The game lists a recommended level of 1, but the Gorn ship sits at about 347,055 strength. The rewards include 500 Romulan Recruit Tokens and an Energy Manifold.
Primal objectives
The story line asks you to defend the Suliban from a resurgent Gorn presence in the neutral zone. There are two objectives and no choice split:
- Find the location of the Gorn attack. Location: Unroth.
- Stop the Gorn before it attacks the Suliban helix. Location: Rator. Enemy strength is roughly 347,055.
The first step is investigation in the pickup system. The second is the one fight in the mission, against the Gorn ship in Rator.
Where and what warp
The pickup system is Unroth, and the mission needs warp 26 to start and to complete. Both Unroth and Rator fall inside that range, so a ship that can accept the mission can finish it.
The recommended level is listed as 1. The Gorn ship’s strength of about 347,055 is the real test, so bring a combat ship comfortably above that.

Primal is a Romulan mission. You gain Romulan reputation and lose some Federation and Klingon reputation, in a smaller amount than the Romulan gain. The faction reputation guide explains what those standings do.
What the Energy Manifold is for
The Energy Manifold ties Primal to another mission. Distant Memories asks you to collect four Energy Manifolds from missions in Sirius, Axanar, Nelvana, Unroth, Jiwu’puH or Quv Qeb, and pays 3,000,000 Parsteel. Primal starts in Unroth, one of the listed systems. Missions picked up in those systems that pay a manifold include:

A Culture of Relics is the natural partner. It is also picked up in Unroth at warp 26, it is about retrieving ancient Suliban artifacts, and between the two missions you collect two of the four manifolds from one system.
Hostiles near the route
Current hostile data lists Romulan hostiles in both mission systems, which is useful if you want to farm while you are there. Unroth has Romulan Patrol ships from level 29 to 35 and Romulan Trained Fighters from 30 to 34. Rator has the same two types at lower levels, 26 to 32 and 27 to 31.
Tips
Run Primal and A Culture of Relics together. They share a pickup system and warp, and both count toward Distant Memories.
Mind your faction standing. The Federation and Klingon losses are small here, but they stack with other Romulan missions.
