Old Friend/New Friend is a level 28 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command about finding an Augment pod. Mudd points you to the Koltiska system, where a scavenger of about 296,419 strength stands between you and the frozen Augment. The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 19 to complete, and everything happens in Koltiska. The reward is 128,000 Tritanium and 26,000 Dilithium, and finishing it unlocks Target Acquired.
Old Friend/New Friend objectives
Three objectives, all in one system, with no choice split:
- Follow Mudd’s directions. Location: Koltiska.
- Defeat the scavenger. Location: Koltiska. Enemy strength is roughly 296,419.
- Find the frozen Augment. Location: Koltiska.
You follow Mudd’s directions to Koltiska, fight off a scavenger there, and then locate the frozen Augment. The mission ends on that discovery, with no trip back to your station.

The recommended level is 28. The scavenger, at about 296,419 strength, is the fight that shows whether your ship is ready.

Target Acquired doubles the combat with two fights of the same size as this mission’s scavenger, and pays far more: 1.8 million Parsteel plus 500 Premium Recruit Tokens. If your ship wins in Koltiska, it is ready for both fights in Biruin, though they come back to back.
The same strength elsewhere
The scavenger’s 296,419 strength matches the Borg Probe in Behind Closed Doors and the Romulan guard in Target Acquired. Since these fights share the same strength, a ship that handles one of them can handle the others.
Koltiska and Biruin in other missions
Koltiska comes up again in A Home Of Our Own, a Borg mission where you go to the edge of Romulan space and try to disable a ship of about 305,058 strength there. Biruin, where Target Acquired takes you next, is also the drop-off point for the Starfleet scientists in A Change of Scenery. If you have run those missions, both systems will already be familiar, and you know roughly what range your ship needs to reach them.
Tips
Arrive at full hull. The scavenger is the only fight in the mission, and there is no step between arriving and fighting it where you can repair.
Repair before Target Acquired. Its two fights come back to back in Biruin with no break in between, so you want a fresh ship going in.
