KSG Defense Vessel

The KSG Defense Vessel is a Klingon faction hostile that spawns at levels 50 to 60 across Klingon space, in systems that start at warp 185 and stretch to warp 400 at the top of the range. It only appears as a Battleship, so an Interceptor is the ship to bring. Each kill raises your Federation and Romulan reputation, lowers your Klingon reputation, and drops 5-star Broken Battleship Parts.

How to beat the KSG Defense Vessel

The KSG Defense Vessel only spawns as a Battleship, so there is no counter triangle to work through and nothing to swap between levels: bring an Interceptor and take the class damage bonus every time. What makes this hostile different from a plain grind target is its ship ability, Pen of Kahless, which raises its Shield Piercing, Armor Piercing, and Accuracy for the first five rounds of combat. The boost scales with level: 25% at levels 50 to 52, 50% at 53 to 55, and 75% at 56 to 60. Piercing stats cut through your mitigation, so the opening rounds land much harder than the ship’s attack stat suggests. Plan around that burst. Either bring enough hull and shield to ride out the first five rounds, or stack enough damage to end the fight before the buff earns its keep. A defense built purely on mitigation loses part of its value while the ability is running, which nudges the answer toward killing fast.

For crew, follow the standard hostile-grinding principle: a captain that raises weapon damage against hostiles, backed by officers that add more damage or shave down incoming hits. At level 50 and up the early cadet crew is long past its prime, so pull from the strongest hostile crews you own and check the officer tier list for current picks. Crews shift with the meta, so treat any named lineup as a starting point rather than a fixed answer.

Where to find the KSG Defense Vessel

The KSG Defense Vessel lives entirely in Klingon space. The low band, levels 50 to 53, sits in warp 185 systems such as Seretos, tlhuHwI’, and tugh’lI wov, so it is reachable soon after you cross into this level range. From level 54 the spawn list widens and the warp requirement climbs in steps, 230, then 255, then 320, until the level 60 version retreats to warp 400 systems like Astertna, Atlhe, Johbacor, Kytheris, and juH’maqoch. Since every kill pushes your Klingon reputation down, expect the neighborhood to get less friendly the longer you farm, and remember that a ship parked in one system for a long stretch is an easy mark for other players.

Level Warp Systems
50–51 185 Seretos, tlhuHwI’, tugh’lI wov
52 185 Pnema-438, Seretos, batlh’lI juH, tlhuHwI’, tugh’lI wov
53 185 Morthion, Pnema-438, Seretos, Veldoran, Zylaris, batlh’lI juH, tlhuHwI’, tugh’lI wov

56 255 Astertna, Atlhe, Morthion, Pnema-438, Seretos, Veldoran, Zylaris, batlh’lI juH, juH’maqoch
57–58 320 Astertna, Atlhe, Johbacor, Kytheris, Morthion, Pnema-438, Veldoran, Zylaris, batlh’lI juH, juH’maqoch

Rewards and what it drops

This is a dual-faction grinder’s target. Every kill adds Federation and Romulan reputation while subtracting Klingon reputation, which makes it a strong pick when you are building the first two and willing to let the third fall. On top of the faction points, each kill drops 5-star Broken Battleship Parts, from 122 per kill at level 50 up to 1,926 at level 60. Ship XP scales the same way, from 3,000 per kill at the bottom of the range to 11,904 at the top.

Drop What it is
5★ Broken Battleship Parts Salvage that refines into parts for building and upgrading 5★ Battleships
Federation Points Federation reputation gain, 12,000 to 87,680 per kill by level
Romulan Points Romulan reputation gain, 6,000 to 43,840 per kill by level
Klingon Points Klingon reputation loss, up to 164,400 per kill at the top of the range

KSG Defense Vessel stats

Stats climb steeply across the level range; the level 60 version is more than twenty times stronger than the level 50 version.

Level Total strength Hull HP Shield HP Attack Defense Ship XP
50 18,352,853 11,109,134 8,331,795 6,576,384 2,056,005 3,000
55 122,555,062 74,183,591 55,637,319 43,915,197 13,729,410 7,070
60 404,630,124 244,925,954 183,693,231 144,991,242 45,329,290 11,904

KSG Defense Vessel firing pattern

The KSG Defense Vessel fires two weapon groups. A pair of energy weapons hits every round for steady chip damage, while a pair of kinetic weapons lands every other round and hits well over twice as hard per shot. The rounds where the kinetic pair fires are the spikes to watch, and they hurt most early, while Pen of Kahless is boosting the ship’s piercing and accuracy. The figures below come from the level 50 version and scale up with level.

Weapon type Count Damage per shot Fires Crit
Energy 2 308,871–377,513 Every round 10% (1.8x)
Kinetic 2 738,889–903,093 Every other round 10% (1.8x)

The Klingons in Star Trek

The Klingons are one of Star Trek’s oldest alien powers, a warrior culture from the planet Qo’noS where honor, combat, and family name decide a person’s worth. Their empire traces back to Kahless the Unforgettable, the legendary figure who united the Klingon people and whose name this hostile’s Pen of Kahless ability borrows. Klingons spent the original series era as the Federation’s fiercest rivals, then became uneasy allies in the era of Worf, the first Klingon in Starfleet. Their bird-of-prey silhouettes, bat’leth blades, and battle cries have made them the franchise’s most recognizable warriors.

Is the KSG Defense Vessel worth grinding?

Yes, if you are pushing Federation or Romulan reputation past level 50. Few targets pay both at once, and the 5-star Broken Battleship Parts are a useful bonus for your battleship program. Skip it if you are protecting your Klingon standing, because the reputation loss per kill is steep. Practical tip: match your warp range to the level band you can actually kill, and favor a hard-hitting Interceptor that ends fights before Pen of Kahless does its damage.
