Know Your Enemy

Know Your Enemy is a level 11 mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. A colony is under siege, and you help by analyzing the hostile ships attacking it: defeat seven hostiles of level 9 or higher, then bring the data home. It needs warp 5 to start and to complete, and it can be picked up in any of six systems. The reward is a single Lucia Gonzales shard, so this is a short errand for officer collectors rather than a resource run.

Know Your Enemy objectives

Two objectives and no choice split:

  • Defeat 7 Hostiles of Level 9 or higher.
  • Return the data to your Station.

The hostile objective has no fixed system. Any hostile of level 9 or above counts, including ones well above that level, so you can clear it wherever you already hunt. Once the seventh kill lands, fly back to your station to hand in the data and finish the mission.

Where and what warp

You can pick up Know Your Enemy in Honsao, Collep, Imgra, Donfo, Fostaa or Weh. Warp 5 covers both the pickup and the finish, and since the only destination after that is your own station, the range never climbs.

The recommended level is 11. The hostiles only need to be level 9 or higher, so a ship ready for level 11 content will clear this comfortably.

Know Your Enemy rewards

The only reward is 1 Lucia Gonzales shard. Nothing else is paid, and no next mission is unlocked from this one.

About the Lucia Gonzales shard

Lucia Gonzales is an Uncommon Command officer from the Federation’s Starfleet Academy group. Reaching rank 1 takes 12 shards, so one shard is a small step on its own. The value comes from stacking it with the other early missions that pay the same officer.

Other missions that pay Lucia Gonzales shards

Current game data lists several low-level missions with a Lucia Gonzales shard in their rewards:

Mission Recommended level Warp to complete Shards
Diamonds in the Rough 10 5 1
Know Your Enemy 11 5 1
Unhealthy Competition 11 7 1
Crashlander 11 5 1, on one path only
Show of Force 12 8 1
Detainment 12 8 1, on one path only
Silence Bought 14 8 1, on one path only

Taking every one of these, and picking the shard path at each choice, adds up to seven shards, still short of the 12 needed for rank 1. Know Your Enemy has no scripted boss and shares the lowest warp in the list, which makes it one of the quicker shards to collect.

Tips

Hunt near your station. Since any level 9 or higher hostile counts, there is no need to fly deep into dangerous systems; the closest group of suitable targets is the fastest route to seven kills.

Pick up the mission in whichever of the six systems is closest to your station. They all lead to the same objectives, so there is no reason to travel further than you need to.

If you are building Lucia Gonzales, check which of the choice missions above you still have open, and pick the shard path there.
