The Klingon Trader is a Klingon hostile that spawns from level 20 to 51 across Klingon space, always as a Survey ship. Destroying one raises your Federation and Romulan reputation and lowers your Klingon reputation, which makes it a standard target for faction grinding. Levels 20 to 39 drop parsteel and tritanium, while levels 39 and up drop 4★ Broken Survey Parts. It barely fights back, so any warship strong enough for its level will do the job.
How to beat the Klingon Trader
There is no class matchup to plan around here. The Klingon Trader only appears as a Survey ship, and Survey hostiles put up almost no fight, so bring whichever combat ship hits hardest at your level and there is nothing to swap between levels. The real gate is power and warp range: the level 51 version has over 16 million total strength and sits in systems that need warp 160.
For crew, follow the usual hostile-grinding principle: a captain whose ability boosts weapon damage against hostiles, backed by officers that add damage or survivability. In the level 20 to 30 band, the cadet crew of Cadet Kirk as captain with Cadet Spock and Cadet Uhura is the evergreen early pick. For current options at higher levels, check the officer tier list. Crews shift as the game updates, so treat any named crew as a starting point rather than a fixed answer.
Where to find the Klingon Trader
Klingon Traders cluster in Klingon faction space. The level 20 to 24 versions sit in warp 13 systems such as Khitomer, Baryn, and BeK, and the spawns push deeper as the level climbs: level 40 needs warp 64, level 47 needs warp 95, and the level 51 version only appears in Tej’Lukk and Wuk’Vek at warp 160.

Rewards and what it drops
The reason to hunt Klingon Traders is reputation. Every kill grants Federation and Romulan points and removes Klingon points, and the swing scales with level: up to 7,840 Federation and 3,920 Romulan points per kill at the top of the range, with a Klingon hit that can reach 29,400. The material drops change at level 39: below it you get parsteel and tritanium, from 39 up you get 4★ Broken Survey Parts instead. Ship XP also scales, from about 103 per kill at level 20 to 2,929 at level 51.
| Drop | What it is |
|---|---|
| Federation Points | Federation reputation; a kill grants 10 to 7,840 depending on level |
| Romulan Points | Romulan reputation; a kill grants 4 to 3,920 depending on level |
| Klingon Points | Klingon reputation, and it goes down: a kill can cost up to 29,400 |
| Parsteel | Basic construction resource, drops at levels 20–39 |
| Tritanium | Ship-upgrade resource, drops at levels 20–39 |
| 4★ Broken Survey Parts | Salvage that converts into ship parts for tiering up 4-star Survey ships, drops at levels 39–51 |

Klingon Trader firing pattern
The Trader carries a single energy weapon that fires from the first round and never pauses, so there are no burst rounds to time officer abilities or repairs around. Damage is steady and modest for the level. The figures below come from the lowest-level record, and the weapon’s damage grows with level.
| Weapon type | Count | Damage per shot | Fires | Crit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | 1 | 2,376–2,904 | Every round | 10% (1.5x) |
The Klingons in Star Trek
The Klingon Empire is one of the great powers of the Star Trek galaxy, founded on the warrior teachings of Kahless and ruled from the homeworld Qo’noS. Klingon culture prizes honor won in battle, and its history with the Federation runs from open war in the original series era to the alliance sealed by the Khitomer Accords. Even a warrior empire needs freighters, though: traders and transport crews move the supplies that keep its fleets fighting, and in Star Trek Fleet Command those civilian hulls are the easy prey you find drifting through Klingon space.
Is the Klingon Trader worth grinding?
Yes, if you are pushing Federation or Romulan reputation. It is a weak Survey target with a wide level spread, so there is almost always a version you can one-shot, and the 39-plus spawns add 4★ Broken Survey Parts on top. Skip it if you are protecting your Klingon standing, because every kill digs that hole deeper. Practical tip: pick the highest level your warp range reaches and your ship can kill without repairs.
