In Times of Trouble is a two-part Star Trek Fleet Command mission chain set entirely in the Hann system. A colony there is in trouble, you drive off a Romulan warbird, then fight pirates and spend Dilithium on a ruse that tricks the Romulans into retreating. Part 1 lists recommended level 25, and both parts need warp 18 to complete. The chain pays five TOS Spock shards, two TOS James T. Kirk shards, 1,000 Latinum and a handful of resources and speed-ups. It is short, with two fights, and one of the quicker ways to pick up shards for the original series crew.
In Times of Trouble at a glance
| Part | Recommended level | Warp to complete | Key reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| In Times of Trouble Part 1 | 25 | 18 | 5 TOS Spock shards, 1,000 Latinum |
| In Times of Trouble Part 2 | 1 | 18 | 2 TOS James T. Kirk shards, 42,000 Tritanium |
The game lists two parts for this chain. There is no Part 3, 4 or 5, so the Part 2 finale in Hann is the end of the story.
In Times of Trouble Part 1
A colony in Hann needs help. You investigate the system, approach the colony and find a Romulan warbird there that you have to defeat. Warp 1 is enough to start and the part needs warp 18 to complete. The recommended level is 25.
- Investigate the Hann system (Hann).
- Approach the colony (Hann).
- Defeat the warbird (Hann, enemy strength around 73,260).
The first two steps are travel and story beats, so the warbird is the only real test. At about 73,260 strength, it tells you quickly whether your ship is ready for the slightly stronger pirates in Part 2. Finishing this part unlocks Part 2.
Rewards: 5 TOS Spock shards, 1,000 Latinum, 21,000 Dilithium.
In Times of Trouble Part 2
The Romulans are still a threat, so the plan is to trick them into leaving. You defeat a group of pirates, get into position and spend Dilithium on a ruse before returning to the colony. The game lists recommended level 1 for this part, but it follows straight on from Part 1 and needs the same warp 18 to complete, and the pirate fight is slightly tougher than the warbird at about 75,312 strength.
- Defeat the pirates (Hann, enemy strength around 75,312).
- Get to the point (Hann).
- Donate 23,000 Dilithium to trick the Romulans.
- Return to the colony (Hann).
The pirate fight is the only combat in this part, and the step to get to the point is a short move inside Hann with no enemy attached. After that, the donation is the one step that can stall you: 23,000 Dilithium, which is 2,000 more than the 21,000 Dilithium Part 1 pays out. Once the Dilithium is spent, the return to the colony completes the chain.
Rewards: 2 TOS James T. Kirk shards, 11 3 Hour Speed Up, 42,000 Tritanium.
Tips for completing In Times of Trouble
Hold on to the Dilithium from Part 1. Part 2 needs 23,000 Dilithium for the ruse, and Part 1 pays 21,000, so you only need 2,000 of your own on top if you do not spend the reward in between. If your Dilithium is going into research or ship upgrades at this level, set the 23,000 aside before you start Part 2.
Both fights are close in strength, around 73,260 for the warbird and 75,312 for the pirates. If you beat the warbird with plenty of hull left, you can go straight into Part 2 without a repair stop. If the warbird fight was close, repair first, since the pirates are a little stronger.
Every objective in the chain is in Hann, so one trip out at warp 18 covers both parts. You never have to return to your station between steps, which makes this one of the faster chains to finish once you are there.
Hann also comes up in Network Theory, another level 25 chain, where you collect Scotty from Butif. If you have both chains open, you can line up the Hann steps to save a trip. A Dark and Stormy Galaxy is a third chain at the same level, and the mission guide lists the rest.
The 11 3 Hour Speed Ups from Part 2 are worth saving for a long building or research upgrade rather than spending on short timers.
In Times of Trouble rewards by part
| Reward | Part 1 | Part 2 |
|---|---|---|
| TOS Spock shards | 5 | 0 |
| TOS James T. Kirk shards | 0 | 2 |
| Latinum | 1,000 | 0 |
| Dilithium | 21,000 | 0 |
| Tritanium | 0 | 42,000 |
| 3 Hour Speed Up | 0 | 11 |
Spock’s shards all come from Part 1 and Kirk’s all come from Part 2, so you need to finish both parts to get anything for Kirk. Part 2 costs 23,000 Dilithium, which cancels out the Part 1 Dilithium almost exactly.
Are the In Times of Trouble rewards worth it?
Yes. For two short parts with two fights near 75,000 strength, the chain pays five TOS Spock shards, two TOS James T. Kirk shards, 1,000 Latinum, 42,000 Tritanium, 11 3 Hour Speed Ups and 21,000 Dilithium, most of which goes back out as the Part 2 donation. The officer shards are the draw. If you are building a TOS crew around Kirk and Spock, run it as soon as you reach level 25 and can make warp 18. If you are not, the Latinum and speed-ups still make it worth the single trip to Hann.
