Tips for completing Going Back to the Death Place
Part 2 is the longest combat stretch. You fight three ships of about 4.3 million strength in two systems, with a forced retreat in the middle, so start it fully repaired and expect to repair again before the Borg ship in Gradientes. Part 3 has only one fight at around 4.1 million, which makes it the easiest of the four.
The difficulty rises at the end. Zenith’s drone ship in Part 4 is around 5.6 million strength and the Romulan attack in Part 5 is around 5.9 million, both higher than anything in Parts 2 and 3. Upgrade your ship or crew between parts if the first battles were close.
Knowing the enemy types helps you pick a ship. Both Aerimea targets in Part 2 are battleships, the Borg ship in Gradientes is an Assimilated Explorer, the Borg ship in Part 3 is an interceptor, and the Romulan attack in Part 5 comes from a Legionary. Zenith’s drone ship in Part 4 is the one fight where you have only the strength figure to go on, so bring your strongest ship for it.
Most of the reward value arrives early. Part 2 alone pays 23.1 million Parsteel and all 140,000 Officer XP, and Part 3 adds the 500 Federation Recruit Tokens. If you are short on time, clearing those two parts first banks the bulk of the chain before the harder fights in Parts 4 and 5.
Warp is 27 for Parts 2 and 3, then 1 for Part 4, then jumps to 47 for the final delivery to Alpha Centauri. If your ship cannot make warp 47, the chain stops at the last step, so plan for that range before you start Part 5.
The chain sits alongside the Absolution story missions and the USS Franklin-A retrofit chain. When you finish Part 5, the next mission is Now and Then Part 1. The mission guide lists every chain in order.
Are the Going Back to the Death Place rewards worth it?
Yes, for a level 40 commander. Parts 2 to 5 pay 43,729,000 Parsteel, 2,792,000 Tritanium, 140,000 Officer XP, 500 Federation Recruit Tokens, 130 each of 4★ Uncommon Refined Gas and Crystal, 5 Latinum and a 1 Day Peace Shield. There are no officer shards, but the Parsteel and 4★ materials help with upgrades at this level, and the fights stay under 6 million strength.
