Fragments is one of the very first story missions in Star Trek Fleet Command. Unusual energy readings have turned up within the system, and you investigate them, rescue a defenseless science ship, and make contact with a Starfleet vessel. It starts and finishes at warp 1, and the game lists a recommended level of 2. The only fight is against an enemy at roughly 143 strength. The reward is 20 Recruit Tokens, a small but useful start toward your first officer recruits.

Fragments objectives

The story line reads: Investigate the unusual energy readings within the system. There are three objectives and no choice split:

  • Find the origin of the energy source.
  • Save the defenseless science ship. Enemy strength is roughly 143.
  • Contact the Starfleet vessel.

None of the objectives names a system, and the whole mission completes at warp 1. You track down the energy readings, defend the science ship from its attacker, then reach out to the Starfleet ship to finish.

Where and what warp

Warp 1 to start, warp 1 to complete, and no pickup system. Every step can be done with a starting ship.

The recommended level is 2. The one enemy, at about 143 strength, ties with Mistaken Identity for the weakest scripted enemy among the level 2 missions below.

Fragments rewards

Reward Amount
Recruit Token 20

Completing it unlocks the next mission, New Recruit.

How it compares with other level 2 missions

Several early missions share the level 2 recommendation and the warp 1 range. Current game data for them:

Mission Fight Rewards
Maia None 60 Parsteel
Fragments ~143 20 Recruit Token
Mistaken Identity Urkwen’s ship (~143) 75 Parsteel
Hunting the Hunter ~162 150 Officer XP, 19 1★ Battleship Parts, 1 15 Minute Repair Speed Up
Muddied Vision None 30 Parsteel, 1 5 Minute Speed Up, 25 Ship XP
Small Favor None 3 Next Gen Crusher or Next Gen Data shards, 50 Officer XP

Fragments and Mistaken Identity have enemies of the same strength, about 143. Fragments is the only one of these that pays Recruit Tokens, which makes it the natural lead-in to New Recruit.

The Officer XP and ship parts in Hunting the Hunter make it the richest of the group in raw terms, but Fragments is the one to prioritize if you want to start recruiting officers early.

Tips

Do it straight away. There is no travel beyond your home system, and the fight is well within reach of a starting ship.

Look for other early token sources too. Gavolar’s Wager, a level 3 mission, pays another 20 Recruit Tokens along with 15 Ship XP and a 3 Minute Speed Up, for a fight at about 272 strength.

Previous mission: Tune Up. Next mission: New Recruit. Other missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
