Forwards is Backwards is a story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command’s time-loop arc with the USS Newton. You use the Temporal Resonator to transmit a temporal echo, meet the Newton, and then have to convince its captain to trust you. Your answer decides the reward. The mission can be accepted at warp 1 and needs warp 56 to complete, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. There is no combat in it, and finishing it unlocks The Apex.
Forwards is Backwards objectives
The story line asks you to use the Temporal Resonator to open a path to the Singularity Apex. Everyone starts with the same three steps:
- Transmit the temporal echo in Mina. Location: Mina.
- Rendezvous mit dem USS Newton. Location: Sotavi.
- Prove your case to the Newton’s captain.
The captain remains unconvinced and asks why they should trust you. You then pick one of two answers.
If you answer: travel with us to the Apex and see for yourself
- Travel to the Nikola system. Location: Nikola.
If you answer: take your chances with another time loop
- Travel to the Nikola system. Location: Nikola.
Both answers send you to the same place with the same task. Only the reward changes.
Wo und welcher Warp
The mission can be accepted at warp 1, but Mina, Sotavi and Nikola need warp 56 to finish it, the same warp as the rest of this arc. The recommended level is listed as 1. With no fight and no donation, warp 56 is the only real requirement.

Choosing your answer
Since the objectives are identical, the choice is purely about rewards. The first answer is the officer path: recruit tokens and Officer XP. The second is the resource path: Dilithium and interceptor parts. Pick whichever your account is shorter on.

The whole arc sits at warp 56. The Vacuum is the only step with a fight, and A Message in a Bottle the only one with a donation, so Forwards is Backwards is the easiest step of the four. The story continues after The Apex in Eine Antwort.
Tips
Any ship with warp 56 will do. There is nothing to fight, so a fast ship saves time on the three jumps.
