Strike Team SNW La’an in Star Trek Fleet Command
Strike Team SNW La’an is an epic Federation officer built for one job: fighting other players. She is a Command-class officer from the Strange New Worlds group, and almost everything about her kit points at battleship combat against enemy ships rather than hostiles or mining.
Her officer ability sets enemy player ships on fire, and her captain ability turns that fire into extra weapon shots. Run together, the two halves feed each other, which is why she fits naturally alongside the rest of the SNW Strike Team crew.
If you spend time in territory fights or base combat with Schlachtschiffe, she is worth a closer look. If you mostly grind hostiles and resources, her abilities will sit idle, because they only trigger against player ships.
The Star Trek background
La’An Noonien-Singh is the chief of security aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike, a main character in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. She is a descendant of Khan Noonien Singh, the Augment tyrant from the Eugenics Wars, and she carries that name uneasily after a childhood of being bullied for it.
Her defining trauma is the Gorn. As a child she lived aboard the colony ship SS Puget Sound, which the Gorn attacked. Her family and the rest of the colonists were killed, and her brother Manu gave his life so she could survive. La’An was the sole survivor, rescued from space by a Starfleet crew that included a young Una Chin-Riley. Una later sponsored her Sternenflotten-Akademie application, and La’An graduated at the top of her class.
Across the series she keeps colliding with the Gorn and with her own heritage. She helps the Enterprise decode Gorn communication after reliving her captivity through a mind meld with Spock, leads an escape from a Gorn ship years later, and on one time-travel trip to present-day Earth she comes face to face with a young Khan and has to make peace with the family line she never chose. That blend of discipline, survival instinct, and buried pain is the character this officer card draws on.
Her role in STFC
La’an is a player-versus-player officer. Both of her abilities check for two conditions: that your ship is a Battleship, and that you are fighting another player’s ship. Against NPC hostiles, armada targets, or eliminations, they do nothing.
Inside that niche she is an offensive piece. She applies a damage-over-time effect to the enemy and then cashes it in for more firepower. As a Command-class officer she also slots cleanly into the captain’s chair, where Befehl crews pick up their class synergy bonus.
Captain ability: Targeting Optimization
While La’an captains a Battleship that is fighting a Burning player ship, the start of each round increases the number of shots each weapon fires. The bonus begins around 10 percent at rank one (as of the latest Daten) and climbs as you promote her, so at higher ranks she can add a large share of extra shots per round.
The catch is in the wording. The bonus only applies while the enemy ship is Burning. That is why her own officer ability matters so much, and why pairing her with Offiziere who apply Burning makes the captain seat far more reliable.
Officer ability: Shield Backdoor
On the bridge of a Battleship fighting a player ship, every weapon hit has a high chance to set the target Burning for three rounds. That chance is already strong at lower ranks and approaches near-certainty once she is promoted.
Burning is a damage-over-time effect, so on its own it chips away at the enemy. The bigger payoff is the loop with Targeting Optimization: she lights the enemy on fire, and a captain who rewards burning targets (including La’an herself) turns that into more shots.
Where Strike Team SNW La’an shines
She earns her seat in a few clear situations. The most obvious is straight battleship player combat: territory disputes, contested systems, and any fight where you bring a battleship against another commander’s hull. She also fits any crew built around Burning or damage over time, since her officer seat is a steady source of that effect. And she is the anchor of a Strange New Worlds Strike Team crew, where she lines up with the officers designed to fight beside her.
The flip side is just as clear. Take her into a hostile grind, an armada, or a mining run and both abilities stay switched off. She is a tool for one part of the game, and she is good at it.
How to get Strike Team SNW La’an
La’an is an event-style officer, so her shards usually move through limited-time events, Strange New Worlds content, and store rotations rather than a permanent faction store slot. Availability shifts often, so check the current event calendar and store offers in your game instead of counting on a fixed source.
Taking her from recruitment to maximum rank costs 1,500 shards in total (as of the latest data). The promotion costs break down like this:
| Rang | Shards to reach this rank |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 |
| 2 | 100 |
| 3 | 200 |
| 4 | 300 |
| 5 | 800 |
Plan her ranks around how much you actually fight other players. Because both abilities are PvP only, ranking her up pays off for active PvP commanders and sits idle for everyone else.
Crew synergies
La’an’s design points at a self-contained battleship PvP crew. Her officer ability creates Burning, and a captain who likes burning targets makes use of it, so she can sit in the captain’s chair of her own burning crew or feed a different burning captain from a bridge seat.
Her built-in synergy partners are the other Strange New Worlds Strike Team officers: Strike Team SNW Una, Strike Team SNW Ortegas, and Shaxs. Grouped together they share a class-synergy bonus, so building that trio around her is the straightforward way to get the most out of the seat. As a Command-class officer she also benefits from the usual Command synergy when paired with other Command officers.
Frequently asked questions
Is Strike Team SNW La’an any good?
For battleship PvP, yes. She brings reliable Burning and a captain bonus that scales off it. Outside player combat she does nothing, so her value depends on how much you fight other commanders.
Where do you get Strike Team SNW La’an shards?
Usually through events and store rotations tied to Strange New Worlds content. There is no guaranteed permanent source, so check the current event and store availability in your game.
What ship is she best on?
A Battleship. Both of her abilities require one, so putting her on any other hull type switches them off.
Is she worth ranking up?
If you run battleship PvP often, the higher Burning chance and bigger shot bonus justify the 1,500 shards. If you rarely fight players, spend those shards elsewhere first.
Does she work against hostiles or armadas?
No. Her abilities only trigger against player ships, so she stays quiet against NPC hostiles and armada targets.
Should you chase her?
Strike Team SNW La’an is a specialist. Commanders who live in player combat and field battleships will get real mileage out of her Burning loop, especially with her Strike Team crewmates. If your day-to-day is hostiles, mining, and Missionen, she is a low priority you can leave for later.
