Behind the Mask is a story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command about rescuing Toryn from a Romulan prison in Rowla. At the prison you decide whether to attack the guard or bribe them, and each choice has its own reward. The mission can be accepted at warp 1 and needs warp 70 to complete, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. The fight path pays recruit tokens, the bribe path pays 4★ Uncommon Refined Erze, and either way the mission unlocks Disarmament.
Behind the Mask objectives
Everyone starts with the same two steps:
- Finden Sie die Romulanisch prison. Location: Rowla.
- Decide what to do about the guard.
If you attack the guard
- Defeat the guard. Location: Rowla. Enemy strength is roughly 1,969,977.
- Retrieve Toryn. Location: Rowla.
- Transport Toryn to New Vulcan. Location: New Vulcan.
If you bribe the guard
- Donate 1.9M Dilithium.
- Retrieve Toryn. Location: Rowla.
- Transport Toryn to New Vulcan. Location: New Vulcan.
The two paths only differ in how you get past the guard. After that, both retrieve Toryn in Rowla and deliver Toryn to New Vulcan.

The mission can be accepted from warp 1, but Rowla and New Vulcan need warp 70 to complete it. The recommended level is listed as 1. On the attack path, a guard at about 1,969,977 strength sets the real bar; on the bribe path, it is having 1.9 million Dilithium to spare.

Either choice unlocks the next mission, Abrüstung.
Choosing a path
The attack path costs nothing but a fight and pays recruit tokens for officer recruitment. The bribe path costs 1.9 million Dilithium and pays 180 4★ Uncommon Refined Ore, a material used in higher-level upgrades. Which is better depends on what you are short of: if your ship can beat a 1.97 million strength guard and you want Offiziere, fight; if refined ore is your bottleneck and Dilithium is plentiful, pay.

The guard in Behind the Mask has the same listed strength as the Mercenary Captain in What Are You Hiding?, so a ship that won that fight can take this one.
Tips
Decide before you arrive. The choice comes right after you find the prison, and the bribe needs the full 1.9 million Dilithium on hand.
If you fight, repair first. The guard is the only enemy in the mission, so a full-health ship is all you need.
