Federation Sentinel

The Federation Sentinel is a level 70 Federation hostile that patrols the Leyna system, reachable at warp 1300. It spawns only as a Survey-class ship, the weakest hull in a fight, so almost any warship you can field at this level will bring it down. Its notable material drop is 6★ Broken Survey Parts, and attacking it swings your faction reputation: you lose Federation standing while gaining Romulan and Klingonisch standing.

How to beat the Federation Sentinel

The Federation Sentinel only appears as a Survey hull. Vermessungsschiffe are the utility class in Star Trek Fleet Command, built for mining and hauling rather than combat, so they sit outside the usual counter triangle and put up little fight. That means you do not have to match a specific class the way you would against an Interceptor, Battleship, or Explorer target. Any warship you can crew at level 70 will handle it, and because it spawns at a single level, there is no hull type to swap between as you climb. It has no ship ability or weakness to plan around either.

What makes it tough is raw level. At level 70 with a warp 1300 requirement, this is deep endgame territory, so the Sentinel carries very high stats even though its hull is fragile once the shooting starts. Bring a strong, well-upgraded ship rather than assuming a Survey target is trivial.

For the crew, the usual hostile-hunting setup applies: a captain that boosts weapon damage against hostiles, backed by Offiziere that add damage or mitigation. This is well past the early cadet crews, so lean on current top officers rather than starter picks. The Officer Tier List tracks who is strong right now. Crews shift with the meta, so treat any specific lineup as a snapshot rather than a permanent answer.

Where to find the Federation Sentinel

The Federation Sentinel is a narrow target. It shows up at one level, 70, in a single system, Leyna, and you need warp 1300 to reach it. Set your warp range accordingly and travel to Leyna to find it. There is no lower-level version to warm up on, so plan to face it at full strength.

Rewards and what it drops

The rewards here are situational rather than a steady farm. The main material drop is 6★ Broken Survey Parts, a high-tier resource for upgrading survey ships. Attacking the Sentinel also moves faction reputation. Star Trek Fleet Command splits reputation across the Federation, Klingon, and Romulan tracks, and hitting a ship from one faction lifts your standing with its rivals while lowering it with its own side. Because the Sentinel flies Federation colors, you lose Federation Points and pick up Romulan and Klingon Points instead. That trade is the main reason a player targets it, so it suits people deliberately grinding rival-faction reputation more than anyone chasing loot. A kill also awards 51,800 ship XP.

Klingon Points Reputation with the Klingonenfraktion
Federation Points Federation reputation, which falls when you attack a Federation ship

Federation Sentinel stats

The Federation Sentinel appears only at level 70 as a Survey hull, so it has one fixed stat profile. The numbers are large for the level, but a Survey hull’s defenses fold quickly once a real warship opens fire.

The Federation in Star Trek

The United Federation of Planets is the central interstellar union of Star Trek, founded in 2161 by Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar after the Earth-Romulan War. It runs on cooperation and scientific exploration, with Starfleet serving as its exploratory and defensive arm. Across the series it stands for diplomacy first and force second, a democratic alliance of member worlds bound by shared law rather than conquest. In Star Trek Fleet Command, the Federation is one of the three main factions a player can align with, alongside the Klingons and Romulans, and each faction carries its own reputation track and store. Ships flying Federation colors, like the Sentinel, are that faction’s patrols, so striking one earns the anger of the Federation while winning favor with its rivals.

Is the Federation Sentinel worth grinding?

For most players, no. It sits at a single high level behind a warp 1300 requirement, and its rewards are situational, so it is not a reliable farm. It earns its place in two narrow cases: you want 6★ Broken Survey Parts, or you are deliberately trading Federation reputation for Romulan or Klingon standing. If you do go after it, match warp 1300, bring any strong warship, and expect a short fight, since the Survey hull will not counter yours.
