Cutting Corners is a level 66 Federation mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Persephone. Captain Arlihar commands a ten-person courier ship and wants a bigger command, so he asks you to scare a mining colony so he can swoop in and look like a hero. It needs warp 1300 to start and to complete, includes a small hostile hunt and three ship fights, and pays 794,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, 1,935,000,000 Dilithium and Federation reputation. It is a comic mission with a strong payout.
Cutting Corners objectives
There are six objectives and no choice split. All the action is in Persephone:
- Intimidate the local colonists. Location: Persephone.
- Defeat 8 hostiles of level 66 or higher.
- Disable the colonists’ ship. Location: Persephone.
- Defeat a marauder’s ship. Location: Persephone.
- Defeat the leader of the marauders. Location: Persephone.
- Return to station.
Your crew threatens the colonists, and they raise their defenses, which is the eight-hostile fight. A colonist’s Explorer then comes at you, and Arlihar asks you to disable it without hurting anyone. It is listed at about 7.5 billion strength.
Just as Arlihar is about to make his entrance, three Orion ships arrive to rob the colony for real. You and the courier ship fight side by side: a marauder’s ship at about 7.5 billion, then the marauder leader at about 7.5 billion. The colonists beg Arlihar to deal with you, so he chases you off with a wink. Back at your station, he reports he is being transferred to the USS Menifee, a California-class ship.

Cutting Corners is picked up in Persephone, and every located objective is there. The last step takes you home to your station. Both the start and the finish need warp 1300, and the recommended level is 66.

Tips
Everything happens in one system, so there is almost no travel once you reach Persephone. The three named fights are all around 7.5 billion strength and come in a row, so keep your hull topped up after the eight hostiles.
Cutting Corners pays the most Σ-Parsteel and Dilithium of the three Persephone missions, which makes it the one to pick first if you only have time for one.
