Combat Training 5: Rookie is the first step of the Combat Training 5 set in Star Trek Fleet Command. The goal is to test your skills against hostiles of escalating difficulty, and the only objective is to defeat one hostile of level 5 or higher. It needs only warp 1 to start and finish, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. The reward is 24 Dilithium and one Next Gen Riker shard, and finishing it unlocks Combat Training 5: Soldier. It is an early mission that takes a single kill.
Combat Training 5: Rookie objectives
There is a single objective and no choice split:
- Defeat a hostile of Level 5 or higher.
No system is named. Any hostile of level 5 or above counts, and one kill completes the mission.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system.
The recommended level is listed as 1. All you need is a ship that can beat a level 5 hostile once.
Combat Training 5: Rookie rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dilithium | 24 |
| Next Gen Riker shards | 1 |
Completing the mission also unlocks the next step, Combat Training 5: Soldier.
How it compares with nearby training steps
The early combat training missions pay small amounts of Dilithium and one or two shards of a named officer. Current game data:
| Mission | Objective | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Combat Training 4: Soldier | Defeat 3 hostiles of level 4 or higher | 19 Dilithium, 350 Officer XP, 1 Next Gen La Forge shard |
| Combat Training 5: Rookie | Defeat a hostile of level 5 or higher | 24 Dilithium, 1 Next Gen Riker shard |
| Combat Training 5: Soldier | Defeat 3 hostiles of level 5 or higher | 35 Dilithium, 600 Officer XP, 1 Next Gen Riker shard |
Combat Training 5 moves the shard reward from Next Gen La Forge to Next Gen Riker. The Rookie step pays a shard and some Dilithium for one kill, and the Soldier step adds Officer XP for three.
The numbers grow quickly as the series goes on. By Combat Training 9 the Rookie step pays 160 Dilithium, and by Combat Training 11 it pays 320.
Tips
Clear it while doing anything else. The objective names no system, so the kill can come from whatever hostile you are already fighting, as long as it is level 5 or higher. Check the level before you attack, since a lower-level kill will not count.
Use the Dilithium sparingly. Early amounts like 24 are small, but Dilithium is needed for many early upgrades and it comes in slowly at this stage.
Keep collecting the Riker shards. The Rookie and Soldier steps each pay one, so finishing both gives you two toward the officer.
The mission before this one is Combat Training 4: Veteran. Other missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
