Beyond Pretense is a level 61 main storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. The Klingon Science Group (KSG) calls for help as a Romulan fleet under Sunak of the Immortals closes in, and you have to pick a side in Kur’than. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 400 to complete. Siding with the Romulan fleets pays 1,010,500,000 Tritanium and 1,300 5★ Common Battleship Parts; siding with the Klingon defenders pays 5,858,750,000 Parsteel and 1,300 5★ Common Interceptor Parts.
Beyond Pretense objectives
The opening is the same for everyone:
- Go to KSG space. Location: Kur’than.
- Who should we side with?
Kulassa of the KSG says the group’s security has been wiped out and its members are scientists and doctors, not fighters. When you arrive, Sunak greets you as a friend of the Immortals and makes it plain he wants the KSG gone for good. Kulassa begs you to protect the group’s research.
Side with the Romulan fleets
- Defeat 15 hostiles of level 58 or higher.
- Defeat the KSG Guard. Location: Kur’than (enemy strength about 3,391,917,710).
- Return to your Station.
You join Sunak’s purge, and Kulassa makes a last stand against you. Afterwards Sunak lets you take the KSG’s research data, though your ship notes that the Immortals never talked about conquest like this before.
Side with the Klingon defenders
- Defeat Commander Sunak. Location: Kur’than (enemy strength about 3,367,690,171).
- Return to your Station.
Sunak turns on you as well as the KSG. Once he is beaten, Kulassa shares the group’s research notes on the recent strange events and the KSG heads back to the homeworld. On both paths Sunak’s behaviour is treated as a sign that something is badly wrong.
Where and what warp
No pickup system is listed. The mission comes after Sacrilege in the storyline, starts at warp 1 and needs warp 400 to complete. Every fight happens in Kur’than, and both paths end with a return to your station. The recommended level is 61.
Beyond Pretense rewards
| Path | Rewards |
|---|---|
| Side with the Romulan fleets | 1,010,500,000 Tritanium, 1,300 5★ Common Battleship Parts |
| Side with the Klingon defenders | 5,858,750,000 Parsteel, 1,300 5★ Common Interceptor Parts |
Either choice unlocks Frontier Outreach, the next storyline mission. There are no faction point rewards on either path.
Storyline neighbours
| Mission | Recommended level | Warp to complete | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sacrilege (level 61 version) | 61 | 700 | 5,450,000,000 Parsteel, 32 5★ Uncommon Explorer Parts |
| Beyond Pretense | 61 | 400 | Depends on the choice |
| Frontier Outreach | 61 | 1 | 304,878,049 Tritanium, 1,300 5★ Common Explorer Parts |
| Ever Expanding | 62 | 1 | 100,000,000 Parsteel, 180,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium |
Frontier Outreach asks for five Planetary missions and five Planetary datapads, and Ever Expanding is the Operations 62 upgrade, so Beyond Pretense is the last real fight in this stretch of the story.
Tips
The Romulan path is longer: a 15-kill grind against level 58 or higher hostiles, then the KSG Guard. The Klingon path is a single fight against Sunak. The two bosses are almost identical in strength, at roughly 3.39 billion and 3.37 billion, so the real difference in effort is that hostile grind.
Choose by resource. The Parsteel payout on the Klingon path is more than five times the size of the Tritanium payout on the Romulan path in raw numbers, and it comes with Interceptor parts instead of Battleship parts. If your next upgrade is Tritanium-bound, the Romulan side may still be the better pick.
The choice does not change your faction standing, since neither path pays faction points. See the main storyline missions for the full order, or the mission guide for missions by level.
