An Illusive Man

An Illusive Man is a Klingon story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in the hunt for Captain Fitzsimons. You interrogate the Orion Syndicate in the Orion system: destroy three Orion ships, disable Orion Boss Arvent’s ship, and then choose how to intimidate him. It starts at warp 1 and needs only warp 8 to complete, but the fights are far heavier than that low warp suggests, with Arvent’s ship at about 527,149 strength. The game lists a recommended level of 1. One path pays over 22 million Parsteel; the other pays 1,000 Klingon Recruit Tokens and 870,000 Dilithium.

An Illusive Man objectives

Four shared objectives come first:

  • Make your way to Orion. Location: Orion.
  • Destroy 3 Orion ships. Location: Orion.
  • Disable Orion Boss Arvent’s ship. Location: Orion. Enemy strength is roughly 527,149.
  • Intimidate Arvent. This is the choice split.

The game then asks how you choose to intimidate Arvent.

Destroy Arvent’s security ship

  • Destroy Arvent’s Personal Escort vessel. Location: Orion. Enemy strength is roughly 547,080.

Rewards: 22,518,000 Parsteel, 22 3★ Uncommon Refined Crystal, 380 Klingon Credits, 50,000 Klingon Points and -56,000 Romulan Points.

Decimate the Orion Syndicate’s local fleet

  • Defeat 15 Orion ships. Location: Orion.

Rewards: 1,000 Klingon Recruit Tokens, 870,000 Dilithium, 380 Klingon Credits, 50,000 Klingon Points and -56,000 Romulan Points.

Where and what warp

The mission appears at warp 1 and needs warp 8 to complete. Orion is the only system involved, so range is no obstacle for a late-game ship.

The recommended level is listed as 1, and warp 8 is low, but neither reflects the fights. Arvent’s ship at about 527,149 and his escort at about 547,080 are the real requirement.

Either path unlocks the next mission in the hunt, Under Cover of Night.

Which way to intimidate Arvent

The security ship path is one more big fight, about 547,080, slightly stronger than Arvent’s own ship. It pays the Parsteel, which is the larger resource payout by far.

The local fleet path swaps the big fight for 15 Orion ships in the same system. It pays Klingon Recruit Tokens and Dilithium, which is better if you are recruiting Klingon officers or short on Dilithium.

The faction standing is identical on both paths, so only the fight type and the resources should decide it.

Arvent also turns up in Show of Force, a level 12 Orion mission that ends with you informing him of Drajk’s defeat.

Tips

Repair between Arvent and the escort if you take that path. The two fights are close to each other in strength, and you face them back to back.

The previous mission, Starscape, ends with a 200K Dilithium payment to a Yridian for data on Fitzsimons, so the Dilithium path here refunds that cost several times over. More missions by level are on the mission guide.
