Under Cover of Night

Under Cover of Night is a Klingon story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you deliver a human war criminal to the Gorn Embassy. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 33 to complete, and it has just two objectives: extract Captain Fitzsimons from hiding on Thaspa in the Orion system, then take him to Ka’weh in Beta Penthe. There is no fight. The reward is 100,000 Officer XP, a 3★ Rare Refined Crystal, 400 Klingon Credits and 60,000 Klingon Points, at a cost in Romulan reputation.

Under Cover of Night objectives

The story line reads: deliver the human war criminal to the Gorn Embassy. There are two objectives and no choice split:

  • Extract Captain Fitzsimons from hiding on Thaspa. Location: Orion.
  • Deliver Fitzsimons to the Gorn Embassy on Ka’weh. Location: Beta Penthe.

The mission is a pickup and a drop-off. Thaspa is in the Orion system and the Gorn Embassy on Ka’weh is in Beta Penthe. No hostile is listed at either stop.

Where and what warp

The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 33 to complete. The two systems, Orion and Beta Penthe, are the only places you go.

The game lists a recommended level of 1. With no combat, the warp 33 range is the practical requirement.

How it compares with An Illusive Man

The mission before this one is An Illusive Man. It needs warp 8 to complete and ends in a choice: one path pays 22 3★ Uncommon Refined Crystal and 22,518,000 Parsteel, the other 1,000 Klingon Recruit Tokens and 870,000 Dilithium. Both paths add 380 Klingon Credits and 50,000 Klingon Points.

Under Cover of Night asks for a longer trip, warp 33 against warp 8, and pays in a different way. Its main reward is the 100,000 Officer XP, and its Klingon payout is a little higher at 400 credits and 60,000 points.

Tips

Send any ship with warp 33. There is nothing to fight, so a survey ship or spare explorer can do it while your combat ship stays on other work.

The 100,000 Officer XP is the part to plan around. Put it into an officer you are actively levelling, so it moves a single crew member forward rather than being spread thin.

Check your faction reputation first if you care about the Romulans. You gain 60,000 Klingon Points and lose 69,120 Romulan Points, so the net effect favours the Klingons.

Other missions by level are on the mission guide.
