Who is Alok Sahar in STFC?
Alok Sahar is a Rare Section 31 officer in Star Trek Fleet Command. He arrived during the Section 31 Part 2 content cycle and exists to do one job: make the GS-31 Interceptor hit harder against other players.
If you fly the GS-31 in PvP, Sahar belongs on the bridge. If you don’t, he’s mostly a collection card with strong lore and almost no in-combat value on other ships. Read his ability before chasing his shards.
Star Trek background
Alok Sahar is a Human Augment played by Omari Hardwick. He debuted in the 2025 Paramount+ event film Star Trek: Section 31, and the character is written as a deliberate counterpoint to Khan Noonien Singh. Same century of origin, same Eugenics Wars backdrop, opposite moral arc.
Sahar was born on Earth in the 1970s. His family was killed by the Augment warlord Giri the Marked, and he was the last survivor of a small band of humans who tried to fight her conquest. Giri spared him, then transformed him into an Augment herself and pulled him into her army, where he committed atrocities in her name.
After the Augments lost the Eugenics Wars, Sahar was exiled from Earth along with the other survivors. He spent the next several centuries in suspended animation. Section 31 revived him in the early 24th century and recruited him as a covert operative working off his past.
In the film, he leads Alpha Team (Quasi, Fuzz, Melle, and Zeph) on the mission that intersects with Philippa Georgiou and the hunt for the Godsend weapon. His personal line, “the past always catches up with you,” is the source of his STFC officer ability name.
Role in STFC
Sahar is a one-job officer. He’s a Command-class Rare in the Section 31 synergy group, and the entire reason to use him is his bridge ability against other players. He has no captain maneuver, so he never sits in the captain seat. He also doesn’t function as a below-decks utility piece — his ability only triggers from the bridge.
That makes him a specialist for the GS-31 Interceptor in player-versus-player combat. On any other ship he does nothing. In hostile fights, armadas, station defense, mining, or any other PvE situation he does nothing. Plan around that before promoting him.
Captain ability and officer ability
Captain ability: Chain of Command
Sahar’s captain ability is intentionally blank. The in-game text reads “This Officer does not have a Captain’s Maneuver. Equipping this Officer as the captain of a ship provides no benefit.” Treat the captain slot as off-limits for him and build the seat around someone else.
Officer ability: Past Always Catches Up
When assigned to the bridge of the GS-31, Sahar adds a chunk of Apex Shred against player targets. The bonus scales with rank, so promoting him directly increases his PvP value. Outside the GS-31 the ability does not trigger, which is the main constraint on using him at all.
A quick refresher on the mechanic: Apex Shred chips away at the Apex Barrier shield that other officers (most notably Section 31 Georgiou) put up. The in-game formula is Apex Barrier divided by 100% plus Apex Shred, so 100% Shred halves a barrier. Pairing Sahar with another Shred source compounds the effect rather than wasting it.
Where Alok Sahar shines
The use case is narrow: PvP, on the GS-31, against opponents who lean on Apex Barrier. That still covers a wide slice of mid- and end-game player combat, because Apex Barrier crews are common on heavy PvP ships right now.
- Diving the GS-31’s Gravitational Blast into an Apex Barrier crew, where Sahar strips the barrier while the GS-31 applies Weakened.
- Cleaning up Battleships or Explorers stacking damage reduction.
- Repeat PvP fights against the same opponent, where consistent damage through their shield wall matters more than burst.
He is not the pick for hostile farming, armada damage, mining, or station defense. There are better Rare officers for those roles in nearly every faction.
How to get Alok Sahar shards
Sahar entered the game during the Section 31 Part 2 event cycle in Update 77, alongside Quasi. As a Rare officer he needs 588 shards total to reach max rank. The promotion costs, current as of the latest game data, are:
| Rank | Shards to promote | Cumulative |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (recruit) | 38 | 38 |
| 2 | 55 | 93 |
| 3 | 115 | 208 |
| 4 | 155 | 363 |
| 5 | 225 | 588 |
Recruitment availability rotates. Check the current event calendar and the Section 31 faction store for him before committing rare materials. The exact bundle, event, or store rotation he appears in shifts month to month, so the safer plan is to flag him as a long-term shard target and chip away when he surfaces.
Synergies and crew building
Sahar belongs to the Section 31 synergy group. Bridging him with other Section 31 officers picks up the standard class-synergy bonuses tied to the group, with a Command-heavy seat composition getting the most out of it. Confirm the live percentages on the in-game crew screen; the values move with patches.
Because Sahar’s value comes from Apex Shred, the strongest crews for him are the ones that either stack additional Shred or pair Shred with a damage spike that benefits from a thinned barrier. Two pairings designed around the GS-31:
- Specialist Seven, Icheb, and Alok Sahar. Stacks Apex Barrier and Apex Shred together with bonus damage into Battleships.
- Gul Dukat, Garak, and Alok Sahar. Gul Dukat’s Hull Breach turns GS-31 shots into criticals, Garak feeds the setup, and Sahar makes sure the target’s Apex Barrier can’t soak them. The combo lines up well when the GS-31’s Gravitational Blast applies Weakened first.
If you don’t have those officers yet, the general rule still holds: build a Shred-friendly crew on the GS-31, slot Sahar with them, and you will see noticeable PvP damage uplift against barrier-heavy opponents.
Frequently asked questions
Is Alok Sahar good?
For one specific job, yes. On the GS-31 in PvP against Apex Barrier crews he is one of the cleanest Shred sources available at Rare rarity. Outside that job he sits on the bench.
What ship is Alok Sahar best on?
Only the GS-31 Interceptor. His officer ability text explicitly gates the effect to that hull. He has no fallback role on other ships.
Can you use Alok Sahar as captain?
No. His captain ability, Chain of Command, is the game’s way of telling you he has no captain maneuver. Putting him in the captain seat wastes the slot.
Where do you get Alok Sahar shards?
He arrived with Update 77’s Section 31 Part 2 content. Rotating events, bundles, and the Section 31 store have been his main sources. Check current rotations in-game; the calendar shifts each month.
How many shards does Alok Sahar need?
588 shards total to reach maximum rank: 38 to recruit, then 55, 115, 155, and 225 for ranks 2 through 5.
Bottom line
Alok Sahar is a deliberately narrow officer with strong lore. If the GS-31 is part of your PvP plan he is a high-value Rare shard target. If it isn’t, he is a fine collection piece and not much else. Decide what role you want him to fill before spending event currency on his shards.
