A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life is a five-part mission chain that starts with a repair job on Deep Space Nine’s atmospheric controls and turns into a hunt for the pirates who wanted Sisko dead. Every part is recommended for level 50, it begins with Chief O’Brien at Bajor, and the travel swings from warp 25 to warp 205. The chain pays four Miles O’Brien shards, tens of millions of Dilithium and, in Part 3, up to 762,450,000 Parsteel. It is expensive up front, but the payouts more than cover the cost.

  • Defeat the mercenary commander, in Bajor (enemy strength ~19,968,447).

Tips for completing A Day in the Life

Bank Dilithium before you start. Part 1 asks for 35M Dilithium to buy the parts and pays back 17,250,000, so the first part costs you more than it returns. Everything after that is profit, and Parts 2 to 5 together return at least 22 million Dilithium.

Warp range is the other gate. Part 1 needs warp 185, and Parts 3 and 4 need warp 205, so check that your ship can reach Holles, Tovla and Belmont before you commit. Part 2 at warp 64 and Part 5 at warp 25 are much easier trips.

The named fights are big. The pirate in Part 2 is around 19.5 million strength, and Part 5 puts mercenaries near 17.2 million back to back with a commander close to 20 million. Repair fully before Part 5 so you are not stuck partway through the final fight. The kill objectives in Parts 1 and 3 ask for hostiles of level 48 or higher.

The Part 3 choice is the biggest decision. The Tritanium bait costs 200M Tritanium but pays 762,450,000 Parsteel, 25,875,000 Dilithium and Battleship parts. The shuttle bait pays the same Parsteel with 9,000 Latinum and Interceptor parts at no resource cost. Leaving O’Brien behind skips the Parsteel and pays Assembly Medals, Explorer parts, 139,725,000 Tritanium and 120,000 Ship XP instead. Pick the branch whose ship parts match the hull you are building.

Are the A Day in the Life rewards worth it?

Yes, if your ship can make warp 205 and handle fights near 20 million strength. The four O’Brien shards, 176,800,000 Parsteel from Part 2, a large Part 3 payout and tens of millions of Dilithium outweigh the 35M Dilithium entry cost by a wide margin. If you are short on range, wait until you can reach the warp 205 systems rather than stalling halfway. See the mission guide for other chains at this level.
