Upgrade Defense Platform A to Level 2 is an early station mission in Star Trek Fleet Command with one objective: raise Defense Platform A to level 2. It needs only warp 1, and the game lists a recommended level of 1, so the upgrade is the only thing to do. The reward is 300 Tritanium and four 1 Minute Repair Speed Ups, and completing it unlocks the next Defense Platform mission. The catch is the upgrade’s prerequisites, which come later than you might expect for a level 2 building.

The story line explains the goal: upgrade your Defense Platform to improve its durability and strength in battle. There is one objective and no choice split:

No system is named, no hostile is listed and nothing is donated. The mission clears when Defense Platform A reaches level 2.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start, warp 1 to complete, no pickup system. The whole mission happens on your station. The recommended level is listed as 1, but the upgrade has requirements of its own.

Level 2 needs the R&D Department at level 13 and Drydock A at level 3. Level 1 of Defense Platform A has no cost and no requirement in the building data, so the R&D Department 13 requirement for level 2 is the real gate. Once level 2 is unlocked, levels 3 to 5 have the same requirements, so you can push several levels in a row.
The 300 Tritanium reward more than covers the 200 Tritanium the upgrade costs.

The Defense Platform A missions run all the way into the forties, and the Tritanium reward grows from a few hundred to several million.
Tips
Check R&D Department 13 first. If you cannot start the upgrade, check R&D Department 13 and Drydock A 3 before anything else.
Push through levels 3 to 5 while you are there. They share the same requirements and take only minutes each.
