The Seeds of Life is a Borg Arc 2 mission in Star Trek Fleet Command that has you run a dangerous experiment on Borg nanoprobes. It opens a single warp from home, then sends you out to the Swarm system Sayo at warp 22, where you track the Vi’dar, fight off a Borg ship, and pick one of two ways to escape. The reward is a batch of refined materials, and the size of the batch depends on the escape you choose.
The Seeds of Life objectives
The mission runs a risky nanoprobe experiment and then gets you clear of the Borg ship that comes looking. Work through the steps in order:
- Collect 3,000 Inert Nanoprobes.
- Gather 150 Active Nanoprobes.
- Track the Vi’dar to a Swarm system (Sayo).
- Donate 4,500 G3 Raw Crystal to disperse the nanoprobes.
- Interface with the Vi’dar in Sayo.
- Distract the Borg ship in Sayo by destroying a Borg Probe (around 347,000 strength).
- Decide how to escape the Borg ship, which splits into two choices.
The final step branches. Both paths finish with the same escape back to your station, but the task you complete and the reward you earn are different.
Choice A: disable the tractor beam with a Dilithium catalyst
- Launch 18,000 Dilithium into the Borg ship.
- Escape and return your ship to your station.
Choice B: confuse their targeting with a cloud of ionized gas
- Release 4,000 G3 Raw Gas.
- Escape and return your ship to your station.
Where and what warp
The mission starts close to home at warp 1, then moves out to Sayo, a Swarm system you reach at warp 22. Sayo is where everything after the nanoprobe collection happens: the Vi’dar interface, the Borg Probe fight, and the escape. Plan your fuel and repair time around that warp-22 trip, since you will be out there for the back half of the mission.
The Seeds of Life rewards
The reward tracks the escape you pick. Both options pay out 3★ refined materials, but at different rarities and quantities.

Clearing The Seeds of Life also continues the Borg Arc 2 story and opens the next mission in that line, so it is worth finishing even if the material payout is modest for your level.
Tips
Two objectives are large donations, so stock up before you start. You need 4,500 G3 Raw Crystal to disperse the nanoprobes, and then either 18,000 Dilithium for Choice A or 4,000 G3 Raw Gas for Choice B to break away from the Borg ship. Having those ready keeps the run from stalling halfway through.
The distraction step is a genuine fight. You destroy a Borg Probe near 347,000 in strength, so bring a combat ship that can handle a Swarm-system Borg target rather than a miner. The two escapes are a straight trade to weigh for yourself. Choice A spends 18,000 Dilithium for four of each Rare refined material, while Choice B spends only 4,000 Raw Gas for 38 of each Uncommon refined material. If your Dilithium is tight, the gas route is far cheaper in premium resources; if you want the higher rarity, the Dilithium route is the one that delivers it.
