Thalaron Radiation is an Epic Forbidden Tech built for player-versus-player combat. It raises your ship’s damage against other players and adds hull health, then piles on extra critical damage while cloaked and a large damage bonus that only Romulan ships get against other players. It slots onto a ship, not a crew, and it rewards players who live in PvP. Fully built, it turns an already strong PvP ship into a much harder hitter.
Thalaron Radiation at a glance
| Detail | Value |

| Use case | Offense (PvP) |
| Max tier and level | Tier 12, level 60 |

What Thalaron Radiation does
The headline effect is more damage against other players. That buff unlocks first and scales the furthest, from 100% at unlock to 1,500% at max tier and level. The other three buffs stack on top as you tier the piece up: more hull health to survive a longer fight, bonus critical damage while your ship is cloaked, and a separate damage boost reserved for Romulan hulls fighting other players.
| Buff | Unlocks at tier | Unlock value | Max value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Increases damage against players | 1 | 100% | 1,500% |
| Increases hull health | 3 | 150% | 3,000% |
| Increases critical damage against players when cloaked | 6 | 20% | 600% |
| Increases Romulan ship damage against other players | 8 | 250% | 3,000% |
Read together, these push a PvP ship in two directions at once: hitting harder and taking more punishment, with the biggest single payoff sitting on a Romulan hull that can cloak. Values shown are current and can change if the game rebalances the piece.
The unlock tiers also tell you where to stop. At tier 1 you only have the damage-against-players buff. Tier 3 adds hull health, tier 6 adds the cloaked critical damage, and tier 8 finally switches on the Romulan bonus, which is the buff with the highest ceiling. A non-Romulan ship gets most of its value by tier 6.
How to get Thalaron Radiation
You unlock Thalaron Radiation in the Forbidden Tech refinery using Epic Forbidden Fragments, the fragment type that matches its Epic rarity. Those fragments come from Q’s Trials and from special rewards. Before you can equip any Forbidden Tech, the ship also needs an open Forbidden Tech slot, which you open with Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods; the same rods let you pull a piece back off later. Rods come from the refinery and the store.
Upgrading Thalaron Radiation
Two systems raise the piece. Tiering up spends tier-up materials, lifts the level cap, and unlocks the later buffs at set tiers: hull health at tier 3, cloaked critical damage at tier 6, and the Romulan damage bonus at tier 8. Leveling up spends level-up materials and scales each active buff toward its max. You need both to reach the numbers above.
| Tier | Level cap | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Starting tier, no cost |
| 7 | 35 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 9,900 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
| 12 | 60 | 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 11,500 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
Reaching max tier costs 352 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 161,550 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Leveling all the way to 60 costs 1,856 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 1,305,350 Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Reactors also feed the upgrade attempts themselves, and Probability Devices raise the odds on those attempts.
Protomatter is the long pole here. It comes from Q’s Trials and the store, while Reactors come from Daily Goals and the store, so a full build takes steady play rather than one big push.
Best ships and uses for Thalaron Radiation
This is an Offense piece aimed at PvP, so it belongs on the ship you take into fights against other players, not on a miner or an armada boat. The cloaked critical-damage buff points it at cloaking hulls, and the Romulan-only damage line makes it strongest on a Romulan warship built for player combat. If you fly Federation or Klingon instead, the first two buffs still land, but you leave the Romulan bonus unused. Crew it with your best PvP officers and keep it on the ship you actually shoot players with.
The Scimitar is the natural home. It is an Epic G6 Romulan battleship with a Ship Cloaking ability, so it can use all four buffs, and it is the ship that carried the thalaron weapon on screen. Smaller Romulan ships with cloaking, such as the Valdore, also qualify for every buff, but an Epic piece is a lot of Fragments and Protomatter to spend on a lower-grade ship.
Thalaron Radiation in Star Trek
Thalaron radiation comes from the film Star Trek: Nemesis. Shinzon, a clone of Captain Picard raised on Remus, seized power on Romulus and built his warship, the Scimitar, around a thalaron generator. The radiation destroys organic matter on contact while leaving structures standing, and Shinzon used it to kill the Romulan Senate in a single strike. The Federation treats thalaron research as forbidden, which is why it belongs in this corner of the game at all. The in-game piece leans on that reputation: a banned weapon of mass destruction repurposed as ship tech.
Shinzon’s next target was Earth. In the film’s final battle, Data crossed to the Scimitar and destroyed the thalaron generator before it could fire, giving his own life to save the Enterprise-E crew.
Is Thalaron Radiation worth it?
If you play PvP seriously, this is one of the stronger Epic Forbidden Tech pieces to chase, and it earns its place on a dedicated player-combat ship. Romulan cloaking-ship pilots get the most out of it and should push it as far as their materials allow. If you rarely fight other players, spend your Fragments and Protomatter elsewhere first, because almost every buff here does nothing outside PvP.
Other pieces that raise damage against players include Red Matter and Time Crystal. What Thalaron Radiation adds on top is a hull health line and two buffs aimed at cloaking Romulan ships.
