Smoke Testing is a Federation story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you gather combat data for the Trinity Council by fighting faction hostiles in their own territory. It starts at warp 1 and needs warp 120 to complete, and it asks for 10 kills of level 47 or higher in each of three systems: Ertalwu, Elvros and Annalu. The reward is 100 4★ Uncommon Refined Ore, 100 4★ Uncommon Refined Crystal, 700 Federation Credits and 645,000 Federation Points, and it unlocks Plans Within Plans.
Smoke Testing objectives
The story line reads: engage faction hostiles in combat within their respective territories and gather combat data for the Trinity Council. There are six objectives and no choice split:
- Go to Ertalwu and await further instructions. Location: Ertalwu.
- Defeat 10 hostiles of Level 47 or higher in Ertalwu. Location: Ertalwu.
- Go to Elvros and await further instructions. Location: Elvros.
- Defeat 10 hostiles of Level 47 or higher in Elvros. Location: Elvros.
- Go to Annalu and await further instructions. Location: Annalu.
- Defeat 10 hostiles of Level 47 or higher in Annalu. Location: Annalu.
The pattern repeats three times: travel, then 10 kills in that system. Ertalwu is a Federation system, Elvros a Romulan one and Annalu a Klingon one, which matches the story line’s idea of fighting each faction on its home ground.
Where and what warp
The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 120 to complete. The three systems are all level 47, the same as the minimum hostile level.
The game lists a recommended level of 1. What you actually need is a ship that can beat level 47 hostiles 30 times, plus the warp 120 range.

Tips
Stay in each system until its 10 kills are done. The objectives only count hostiles in the named system, so kills elsewhere will not help.
Repair between systems. With 30 fights in total, the travel legs are your natural breaks.
