Shock & Awe is a level 61 Klingon mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. You pick it up in Buyq’eal and need warp 900 both to start and to complete. General Krull, sick of what he sees as the High Council’s cowardice, recruits you for a raid across the Federation border that ends with a fight against the USS Montezuma and an attack on Deep Space 13. The rewards are 1 Uhura’s Vokaya Necklace, 202,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium and 3,600 Klingon Credits.

Shock & Awe objectives

The mission has six objectives in a fixed order and no choice split:

  • Accompany General Krull to Kronos. Location: Kronos.
  • Return to the Frontier. Location: Tel’Droht.
  • Cross into Federation space. Location: Keylali.
  • Defeat 12 hostiles of level 61 or higher.
  • Defeat the USS Montezuma. Location: Keylali (enemy strength ~2,618,077,029).
  • Bombard Deep Space 13. Location: Keylali.

Krull opens with a rant about the High Council and about the Federation, which he sees as a slow poison eroding the Empire. He has no patience for Gowron either. After the stop at Kronos he collects his own ship, the PIn’a noH, and the two of you head for the border at Keylali. The 12 kills are the start of the raid on the system. That brings a Galaxy-class ship, the USS Montezuma under Captain Benedoro, who orders you to stand down; Krull refuses. With the Montezuma beaten, Krull picks Deep Space 13 as the target for his message to Starfleet. As more Federation ships close in, he refuses to retreat, and your crew has to leave him to his fate.

Where and what warp

The pickup is Buyq’eal, and the mission lists warp 900 to start and warp 900 to complete. The route runs from Kronos to Tel’Droht and then into Keylali, where the last three objectives take place. The recommended level is 61.

Shock & Awe and Grand Tales

Buyq’eal gives out one other level 61 Klingon mission, Grand Tales, where a Klingon bard wants you to help him write his own tale. Both pay the same Klingon Credits and faction points, but the routes and the fights differ.

Mission Systems Warp Combat Main rewards
Shock & Awe Kronos, Tel’Droht, Keylali 900 12 hostiles of level 61 or higher, USS Montezuma (~2.6 billion) 1 Uhura’s Vokaya Necklace, 202,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium
Grand Tales Stellastica, Badgerya 900 14 plus 8 hostiles of level 60 or higher, the Subcommander (~3.4 billion) 1 10 Day Speed Up, 260,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel

Tips

The Montezuma is the fight to plan for. At about 2.6 billion strength it sits below the Grand Tales Subcommander, so a ship that can finish Grand Tales should manage it. Note that the hostile grind here asks for level 61 or higher targets, one level above the requirement in Grand Tales, so pick your targets with that in mind.

Watch the reputation cost. You gain 104 million Klingon Points but lose 76,128,000 Federation Points and 203,008,000 Romulan Points, and the Romulan loss is almost twice the Klingon gain. Those numbers change your faction reputation, so think about it if you also run Romulan missions. More on the Klingon faction is on its own page.

The Uhura’s Vokaya Necklace is the one reward you cannot get from the other Buyq’eal mission. If you are after raw resources instead, Grand Tales pays more Raw Σ-Parsteel than this mission pays Raw Σ-Tritanium; regular Tritanium has its own page. For missions at other levels, use the mission guide.
