Recovery Protocol is an early Star Trek Fleet Command mission that sends you after hostile ships holding stolen materials and blueprints. The game lists a recommended level of 4, and both the start and the finish need only warp 1. You fly to the nearby system first, then defeat three hostiles of level 3 or higher. The reward is 5 Dilithium, and the three fights make a quick warm-up for a new commander.
Recovery Protocol objectives
The mission has two objectives in a fixed order, with no choice split:
- Go to the nearby system.
- Defeat 3 Hostiles of Level 3 or higher.
The first step is a short trip. It points you at a system next to your starting space, so there is nothing to research or unlock before you set off. Once you arrive, the fight begins to count. The mission text explains where the targets live: level 3 hostiles appear in star systems that are level 2 or higher, so you need a system of at least that level to find ships that qualify.
Only hostiles at level 3 or above add to the count of three. A lower-level ship will still fight you, but it does nothing for the objective, so read each target’s level before you attack.
Where and what warp
Recovery Protocol is picked up and finished at warp 1, the lowest warp a mission can ask for. Everything happens inside or right next to your home territory, so fuel and travel time are close to zero and nearly all of the effort goes into the three fights.
The recommended level is 4. If your station is there and your first combat ship is built, you have what the mission needs.
Recovery Protocol rewards
Finishing the mission pays 5 Dilithium. The three hostiles also drop their own loot when destroyed, on top of the mission reward. Completing it moves the storyline on to Explore the Strange and the New.
Recovery Protocol and its neighbours
The missions on either side of this one are station jobs, which makes Recovery Protocol the combat stop in this stretch of the early storyline. Rising comes before it and Explore the Strange and the New follows.
| Mission | Recommended level | Warp to complete | Objective | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rising | 4 | 1 | Upgrade Operations to Level 4 | 750 Parsteel, 1 Relocation Token |
| Recovery Protocol | 4 | 1 | Go to the nearby system, then defeat 3 level 3+ hostiles | 5 Dilithium |
| Explore the Strange and the New | 4 | 1 | Build the R&D Department | 10 Dilithium |
Tips
Set up before you undock. Seat your strongest officers in the captain chair and on the bridge to raise your damage and survivability, and top off your ship’s health first. Early hulls are fragile, so a quick repair between fights keeps you from losing the ship on the third target.
Check each hostile’s ship type before you commit. Hostiles come in different hull classes, and matching your ship against the class it beats shortens the fight and cuts the damage you take.
Stay close to home. Because the targets sit in level 2 or higher systems near your starting space, you can usually clear all three in one visit to the nearby system and fly straight back. For more on the ships you will be fighting, see the hostile guide, and every other mission by level is on the mission guide.
