The [PRO] Neural Neutralizer is an Epic Forbidden Tech in Star Trek Fleet Command built for one job: hitting Outposts harder. Its lead buff raises your Critical Hit Chance against Outposts from 3% at unlock to 50% at max, and later tiers stack mitigation, base damage, and Apex Barrier against Node Outposts and the ships that retaliate when you attack them. If Outpost warfare is part of your endgame, this is a piece worth chasing.
What the Neural Neutralizer does
The Neural Neutralizer carries four buffs, and every one of them points at Outposts. The Critical Hit Chance buff is active from tier 1 and does the early work, turning a larger share of your hits against Outposts into critical strikes. The other three buffs switch on as you tier the piece up, and they shift its value from pure offense toward surviving the fight.
| Buff | Unlocks at tier | Unlock value | Max value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Increases Critical Hit Chance against Outposts | 1 | 3% | 50% |
| Increases all Mitigation stats against Outposts and Outpost Retaliation Ships | 3 | 15% | 250% |
| Increases Base Damage against Node Outpost Retaliation Ships | 6 | 50% | 850% |
| Increases Apex Barrier against Node Outposts and Node Outpost Retaliation Ships | 8 | 400 | 8,000 |
Values are current as of the latest game data and scale with the item’s level between those two endpoints. Read together, the four buffs let your ship deal more critical damage to an Outpost while taking less back from it and from the retaliation ships that spawn, so both the attack and the survival side of an Outpost fight improve. The Apex Barrier buff does not apply when Tal is assigned to the bridge, so keep that in mind if he is part of your crew.
How to get the Neural Neutralizer
You unlock Forbidden Tech through the Forbidden Tech refinery. As an Epic piece, the Neural Neutralizer draws on Epic Forbidden Fragments, which come from Q’s Trials and special event rewards. You also need Fusion Rods, which open up the Forbidden Tech slots on your ships and let you pull a piece back off a ship later if you want to move it. Both are refinery and store currencies, so the unlock is a matter of banking the fragments and having a free slot ready.
Upgrading the Neural Neutralizer
Forbidden Tech has two upgrade tracks that work together. Tiering up raises the level cap and switches on the later buffs at tiers 3, 6, and 8, while leveling up scales each buff toward its maximum. Tier-ups on this piece use Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalysts, and level-ups use Prototype Tech Protomatter.
| Tier | Level cap | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Starting tier |
| 7 | 35 | 4,000 Rare Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
| 12 | 60 | 4,125 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst |
Reaching tier 12 costs 24,800 Rare and 9,075 Epic Prototype Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Taking the piece from level 2 to its level 60 cap costs another 815,050 Epic and 368,000 Rare Prototype Tech Protomatter. The tier 3 and tier 6 unlocks are the milestones worth pushing for first, since each one adds a new buff rather than a bigger number on one you already have.
Best ships and uses for the Neural Neutralizer
Slot the Neural Neutralizer on the ship you send against Outposts and Node Outposts. Every buff it carries reads “against Outposts” or “Node Outpost Retaliation Ships,” so it does nothing for hostile grinding, mining, armadas, or standard player-versus-player fights. On a dedicated Outpost ship the crit buff raises your damage output, the mitigation buff cuts the return fire from the Outpost and its retaliation ships, and the base damage and Apex Barrier buffs at the higher tiers keep you effective against the tougher Node Outpost defenders. Pair it with the crew you already use for territory and Outpost combat rather than swapping in a hostile or mining setup.
The Neural Neutralizer in Star Trek
The Neural Neutralizer comes from the original series episode “Dagger of the Mind.” Dr. Tristan Adams ran the Tantalus V penal colony and built the device as a therapy tool, meant to calm violent prisoners by draining troubling thoughts from their minds. It worked by leaving a patient wide open to suggestion, with the effect depending on the strength of the beam and the person’s own willpower. Adams turned it on staff and patients alike to study it further, and heavy or repeated exposure left permanent damage, emptying a mind to the point of death. Kirk and the Enterprise crew shut the colony down after Dr. Helen Noel and Spock exposed what Adams had done.
Is the Neural Neutralizer worth it?
It depends on how much Outpost warfare you do. If attacking Outposts and Node Outposts is a regular part of your play, the Neural Neutralizer is a strong Epic pick, since it improves both your damage and your survival in exactly those fights. If you rarely touch Outpost content, your Forbidden Tech materials go further on a piece that helps your daily activity. For an Outpost-focused player, push it to tier 6 for the base damage buff, then level it as materials allow.
