The Orion Traitor is a Neutral hostile you run into early in Star Trek Fleet Command, spawning as an Explorer-class ship between levels 9 and 16. It roams low-level Neutral systems at warp 5 to 11 and drops Tritanium, the basic ship-building material. Because it only ever shows up as an Explorer, the quickest kill comes from a Battleship, which counters that hull.
How to beat the Orion Traitor
The Orion Traitor appears only as an Explorer, so you never have to swap ship classes between levels. In the combat triangle, Battleships beat Explorers, Explorers beat Interceptors, and Interceptors beat Battleships, with Survey ships barely fighting at all. That means one rule here: bring a Battleship and you hold the advantage every time. Leave your Interceptors docked for this target, since they sit on the losing side against an Explorer.
For crew, put a captain that boosts weapon damage against hostiles in the center seat and fill the other chairs with officers that add damage or mitigation. At these low levels the evergreen cadet crew does the job: Cadet Kirk as captain with Cadet Spock and Cadet Uhura beside him, a trio that raises damage and keeps the fight short. Crews shift with the meta, so check the current Officer Tier List for up-to-date picks. The Orion Traitor has no special combat ability, so there is nothing extra to play around. A clean Battleship with a damage crew ends it fast.
Where to find the Orion Traitor
The Orion Traitor clusters in early Neutral space. The lowest levels, 9 through 13, sit at warp 5 and appear in dozens of starter systems, so you rarely travel far to find one. As the level climbs the spawn list narrows and the warp requirement rises: levels 14 and 15 need warp 7, and the level 16 version sits deepest at warp 11 in just two systems.

Rewards and what it drops
The Orion Traitor pays out in raw material rather than blueprints or special currency. Every kill drops Tritanium, and the higher-level spawns also hand out more ship XP for leveling the ship you fight in. Since the drop is a bulk material and the target is easy, this hostile suits repeat farming rather than a one-off kill.
| Drop | What it is |
|---|---|
| Tritanium (74–173) | A basic refined material used to build and upgrade most early ships and buildings. The core reason to farm this hostile. |
Orion Traitor stats
Stats climb steeply with level, so a level 16 Orion Traitor hits far harder than the level 9 version even though both are Explorers.
| Level | Total strength | Hull HP | Shield HP | Attack | Defense | Ship XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | 1,392 | 300 | 320 | 482 | 600 | 47 |
| 13 | 3,760 | 650 | 680 | 1,450 | 1,645 | 99 |
| 16 | 9,404 | 1,780 | 1,880 | 3,739 | 3,835 | 150 |
Orion Traitor firing pattern
The Orion Traitor carries a light energy loadout. It fires two energy weapons every round, so its damage is steady rather than bursty, and there is no heavy volley to time repairs around. A Battleship with any early mitigation soaks the hits comfortably.
| Weapon type | Count | Damage per shot | Fires | Crit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | 2 | 126–154 | Every round | 10% (1.5x) |
The Orions in Star Trek
The Orions are a green-skinned species best known for living outside Federation law. They ran one of the oldest criminal networks in the galaxy, the Orion Syndicate, and built a reputation on piracy, smuggling, and the slave trade. Orion women appeared in the very first Star Trek pilot, “The Cage,” later reworked into “The Menagerie,” where their allure was used as a lure. Across the franchise the Orions turn up as traders and raiders who answer to profit more than to any flag. A ship labeled a “traitor” fits that world, where loyalties are bought and sold and a captain will switch sides for the right price.
Is the Orion Traitor worth grinding?
For early players it is a solid Tritanium and ship XP source, and its single Explorer hull makes it one of the simplest targets to farm once you have a Battleship. There is no rare drop or blueprint to chase, so it is a steady grind rather than a jackpot. Match the warp for the level you want, bring a Battleship with a damage crew, and clear them in bulk while you build up your early economy.
