On the Brink is a Federation rescue mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. A Federation science team is close to creating an anomaly, and you help Doctor Mullen before things go wrong. The mission is picked up in Xerxes, needs warp 23 to start and warp 40 to complete, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. There are no fights, but you have to hand over 1.5 million Parsteel. The reward is 43,000 Tritanium and 9,000 Dilithium, so the cost is steep in Parsteel terms.
On the Brink objectives
There are four objectives and no choice split:
- Assist Doctor Mullen in the Suliban system. Location: Suliban.
- Recover the shuttle from Brennis. Location: Suliban.
- Give 1.5M Parsteel to the Doctor to shield his warp core.
- Escape the system. Location: Vindemiatrix.
The first two steps both take place in Suliban: you find Doctor Mullen, then recover a shuttle from Brennis. The third step is a donation of 1.5 million Parsteel so the doctor can shield his warp core. The mission ends with an escape to Vindemiatrix.
Where and what warp
The mission is picked up in Xerxes. Starting it needs warp 23, and completing it needs warp 40.
The game lists a recommended level of 1. Warp 40 and the 1.5 million Parsteel donation are the practical requirements, since nothing here needs to be fought.
On the Brink rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tritanium | 43,000 |
| Dilithium | 9,000 |
Is the Parsteel worth it?
This mission is a trade. You pay 1.5 million Parsteel and get back 43,000 Tritanium and 9,000 Dilithium. Whether that is a good deal depends on what your station is short of. If Parsteel is piling up while Tritanium and Dilithium hold back your upgrades, the swap works in your favour. If you are saving Parsteel for a large building upgrade, it can wait.
Put another way, every million Parsteel donated returns roughly 28,700 Tritanium and 6,000 Dilithium. That ratio is the number to weigh against your own stockpiles.
Route planning
The route has three stops: Xerxes to pick up the mission, Suliban for the first two objectives, and Vindemiatrix to escape. Suliban and Vindemiatrix are where the warp 40 requirement comes from. Since there are no fights, a ship with good warp range is more useful than a strong combat ship.
The gap between the two warp figures matters. Warp 23 is enough to reach Xerxes and pick the mission up, but finishing needs warp 40, close to double. A ship that only just reaches Xerxes will not be able to finish the mission until its range improves.
Tips
Send a fast, long-range ship. With no combat at all, warp range is the ship stat that matters most here.
Check your Parsteel before you set out. 1.5 million is a large donation, and the mission cannot progress past the third objective without it.
