Knowledge is Power

Knowledge is Power is a short Romulan intelligence mission in Star Trek Fleet Command. You plant a data recorder on Rigel I to gather information on the Rigellians for the Romulan Star Empire, then defeat the Rigellian Captain in the same system. It can be picked up in Obilent or Labac, needs warp 12 to start and finish, and pays 31,000 Parsteel. Two objectives, one fight and one system make it a quick run.

Knowledge is Power objectives

Both objectives are in the same system, and there is no choice split:

  • Plant a data recorder on Rigel I. Location: Rigel.
  • Defeat the Rigellian Captain. Location: Rigel (enemy strength about 16,382).

The first step is the spying part of the story. You fly to Rigel and leave the recorder on Rigel I. The second step is the only fight in the mission: a Rigellian Captain listed at roughly 16,382 strength. Win that fight and the mission is complete; there is no return trip to a pickup system afterwards.

Where and what warp

Knowledge is Power is offered in two systems, Obilent and Labac. Accept it in whichever is closer. Warp 12 is enough for the whole mission, since the start and completion values are the same.

The game lists a recommended level of 1. In practice warp 12 and a fight at about 16,000 strength set the bar, so it suits commanders who have just reached that range.

Knowledge is Power rewards

The mission pays 31,000 Parsteel. No reputation points, speed ups or other items are listed, and the mission does not unlock a follow-up.

How the fight compares

The Rigellian Captain is the only thing that can stall this mission. At around 16,382 strength it is a light fight for the warp 12 range, close in size to the fights in another early Romulan-side mission, Jolan Tru, where a Klingon B’Rel sits at about 17,996 strength.

Mission Warp to complete Fight Enemy strength Main reward
Knowledge is Power 12 Rigellian Captain ~16,382 31,000 Parsteel
Jolan Tru 13 Klingon B’Rel, then raiding parties ~17,996 and ~18,405 4 Arix shards, 120,000 Parsteel

Jolan Tru pays more but asks for two fights and one more point of warp.

Tips

Bring a combat ship to Rigel. Planting the recorder is a travel step, but the mission ends on the fight, so a mining or survey ship will not be able to finish it.

Since both objectives are in Rigel, you do not need to plan a route beyond the jump from Obilent or Labac. If you already have a ship near Rigel, pick the mission up on the way past and complete it in one trip.

The 31,000 Parsteel is modest, so treat Knowledge is Power as a quick bonus rather than a priority. For more missions at this level, see the STFC mission guide.
