Further Expanse

Further Expanse is a level 65 story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which Howards, back from the Cult Eternus, puts new research into Maia. It needs only warp 1 to start and to complete, and its one objective is to complete Compact Defense Research. The reward is 72,000 6★ Raw Gas and 230,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, and finishing it unlocks What We See. The research is the only thing standing between you and the rewards.

Further Expanse objectives

There is a single objective and no choice split:

  • Complete Compact Defense Research.

No system is named and nothing is donated. The mission completes when the research is finished.

It follows Hazardous Vocation, where you try to save Howards. Now recovered, he shares what he overheard while held by the cult: plans to open a great eye and let the Nameless consume the galaxy. Toryn wonders whether the great eye is the void they came through. Howards also says the cult kept asking him about a child of history, something they seemed to fear could stop them. Toryn believes that means Maia, the last living remnant of the Progenitors. Howards takes that as a reason to make her stronger, and his research promises to raise her capabilities by an order of magnitude. When it is done, Toryn calls it a fine addition to Maia’s arsenal.

Where and what warp

Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. The whole mission happens on your station. The recommended level is 65, and completing the research is the real requirement.

Further Expanse rewards

Reward Amount
6★ Raw Gas 72,000
Raw Σ-Parsteel 230,000

Completing the mission unlocks What We See.

Further Expanse and its neighbours

This part of the story runs through several station-side steps in a row:

Mission Recommended level Warp to complete Objective Rewards
Hazardous Vocation 65 1 Collect 2600 Hazard Particles. 93,000 6★ Broken Survey Parts, 230,000 Raw Σ-Tritanium
Further Expanse 65 1 Complete Compact Defense Research. 72,000 6★ Raw Gas, 230,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel
What We See 66 1 Upgrade Operations to level 66. 462,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, 1,125,000,000 Dilithium
The All Seeing Eye 66 1 Intercept 6 Cultist transmissions. 277,000 Raw Σ-Parsteel, 675,000,000 Dilithium

All four are warp 1, so the pace of this stretch depends on research, particles, an Operations upgrade and interceptions rather than travel. What We See needs Operations 66, which is the step most likely to hold you up.

Tips

Queue Compact Defense Research as soon as the mission unlocks, and start planning the Operations 66 upgrade for What We See, since the two missions follow each other with nothing else between them.

The 6★ Raw Gas is a useful top-up for refining. Maia’s story begins in the Maia mission, the Σ resources guide covers Raw Σ-Parsteel, and more missions sorted by level are on the mission guide.
