The Federation Patrol is a Federation hostile that spawns in two separate level bands: levels 20 to 55 across Federation and border space (warp 17 to 320), and a high-level band at 60 to 70 in deep Federation space (warp 900 to 1500). There are no spawns between 56 and 59. The low band rotates through Interceptor, Battleship, and Explorer hulls; the 60 to 70 band is Explorer only, so a Battleship handles it. Kills earn Romulan and Klingon reputation, cost Federation standing, and drop materials that shift from Parsteel and Dilithium to 4★ parts and, in the high band, 6★ parts.
How to beat the Federation Patrol
In the 20 to 55 band this hostile shows up as all three combat hulls, so pick your ship by the variant in the system. In the combat triangle, Interceptors beat Battleships, Battleships beat Explorers, and Explorers beat Interceptors, while Survey ships barely fight. Bring an Interceptor against its Battleship, a Battleship against its Explorer, and an Explorer against its Interceptor. Check which hull is sitting in the system before you commit a ship.
The 60 to 70 band is simpler: it only spawns as an Explorer, so a strong Battleship is the answer for the whole band. The step up in power between bands is enormous (a level 55 spawn has about 31 million total strength, a level 60 spawn about 9 billion), so treat the high band as an endgame target rather than a continuation of the mid-game grind.
Part of the high band also has a defensive trick. From level 60 to 66 the patrol carries the Plausible Deniability ship ability, which recovers a share of its total shield HP for each of the first five rounds of combat: 15% at level 60 and 20% at 61 to 66. Early shield damage keeps healing back, so favor sustained damage over an opening burst there. The level 67 to 70 spawns do not have the ability, and neither does the 20 to 55 band.
For crew, put a captain that boosts weapon damage against hostiles in the captain seat, then add officers that raise damage or mitigation. At the low levels an early cadet crew of Cadet Kirk as captain with Cadet Spock and Cadet Uhura will clear the weaker spawns. Crews shift with the meta, so use the Officer Tier List for current picks rather than a fixed lineup.
Where to find the Federation Patrol
The low band clusters through Federation and border systems with many options per level, so you rarely travel far. Lower levels sit around warp 17 to 24, climbing to warp 320 for the level 54 and 55 spawns in Assimilated Tellar. The 60 to 70 band lives in a different neighborhood entirely: deep Federation space from warp 900 at level 60 up to warp 1500 at level 70. Match your warp range to the level you want, then pick any system on its row.

Rewards and what it drops
Killing a Federation Patrol earns Romulan and Klingon reputation and costs you Federation standing, since it flies under the Federation flag. The material drops track the band: levels 20 to 40 drop Parsteel and Dilithium, levels 39 to 55 drop 4★ Broken Ship Parts for all three combat hulls, and the 60 to 70 band drops 6★ Broken Explorer Parts and 6★ Broken Survey Parts. Ship XP follows the same curve, from about 234 at level 20 to roughly 3,502 at level 55, then jumping to 25,700 at level 60 and 83,500 at level 70.
| Drop | What it is |
|---|---|
| Romulan Points | Reputation with the Romulan faction, on every kill in both bands |
| Klingon Points | Reputation with the Klingon faction, on every kill in both bands |
| Federation Points | Negative; attacking this ship lowers your Federation standing |
| Parsteel | Basic resource for building and upgrading (levels 20 to 40) |
| Dilithium | Currency used to speed up research, building, and travel (levels 20 to 40) |
| 4★ Broken Explorer Parts | Salvage used to build and upgrade 4★ Explorers (levels 39 to 55) |
| 4★ Broken Interceptor Parts | Salvage used to build and upgrade 4★ Interceptors (levels 39 to 53) |
| 4★ Broken Battleship Parts | Salvage used to build and upgrade 4★ Battleships (levels 39 to 52) |
| 6★ Broken Explorer Parts | Rare high-end salvage; 2,175–27,702 per kill (levels 60 to 70) |
| 6★ Broken Survey Parts | Rare high-end salvage for survey ships; 1,088–13,851 per kill (levels 60 to 70) |
Federation Patrol stats
Stats vary by hull variant and climb steeply with level; the jump between the two bands is the biggest step on the whole curve. These anchor rows come from the Explorer variant.

The Federation in Star Trek
The United Federation of Planets is the interstellar union at the heart of Star Trek, founded on Earth in 2161 by Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites. It grew into a democratic alliance of more than a hundred worlds, governed by a President and Council and defended by Starfleet, its combined exploratory and military service. Its ideals center on peaceful exploration, scientific progress, and cooperation between species. A ship labeled a Federation Patrol stands in for Starfleet’s routine presence policing its own borders, the kind of vessel a captain aligned with a rival power runs into while operating in Federation space.
Is the Federation Patrol worth grinding?
Yes, at two different points in your progression. The 20 to 55 band is a reliable stop for Romulan and Klingon reputation, with Parsteel and Dilithium at the lower levels and 4★ Broken Ship Parts past level 39; the wide spread of systems means one is almost always near your warp range. The 60 to 70 band is a different proposition: an endgame 6★ parts and reputation farm that demands a serious Battleship and warp 900 or better. In both cases, match your warp to the level, bring the hull that counters the variant in front of you, and let the points stack up.
