Density is an early main storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command that teaches the research screen. Its one objective is to unlock Hull Density through research. The recommended level is 4, it needs only warp 1 to start and finish, and the reward is 15 Dilithium. Finishing it unlocks Negotiations. It takes a few minutes and gives you your first permanent combat bonus.
Density objectives
There is a single objective and no choice split:
- Unlock Hull Density in the Research screen.
No system is named and no hostile is listed. The mission clears when the first level of Hull Density is researched.
Where and what warp
Warp 1 to start and warp 1 to complete, with no pickup system. Everything happens in the Research screen at your station.
What Hull Density is
Hull Density is a project in the Combat research tree. Its in-game description says it increases Hull Health for all ships, and it can be researched up to level 10. The first level needs the R&D Department at level 1, which the mission before Density has you build.
Density rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dilithium | 15 |
Completing it unlocks Negotiations, where you make contact with a Federation envoy.
Where it sits in the opening missions
| Mission | Recommended level | What you do | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Explore the Strange and the New | 4 | Build the Research & Development building | 10 Dilithium |
| Density | 4 | Unlock Hull Density in research | 15 Dilithium |
| Negotiations | 4 | Make contact with a Federation envoy | 25 Ship XP |
All three are warp 1 missions at level 4, and together they walk you from building the R&D Department to using it.
Tips
Keep researching Hull Density past level 1 when you can. The mission only needs the unlock, but the extra hull health helps every ship you fly.
The combat research guide covers what to research next, and the full story order is on the main storyline missions page.
